"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

I had rather be first in a village than second at Rome.

I love the name of honor, more than I fear death.

Helen, you have some great quotes!!

Patrice Gifford
"It is always wise to stop wishing for things long enough to enjoy the fragrance of those now flowering."

Irish Proverb
"Count your joys instead of your woes; count your friends instead of your foes."

Charles Dickens
"Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some"

Thanks Semp!

I agree, all of these 'quotes' are great!
we all have 'great' quotes,
But...........
Some people live by their dreams,
and Hope,
Others,
dream to live,
in Hope,
to live their dreams.

Now .......if only I could apply a couple of those to myself, life may be made simpler!
Life is what you make it, I guess!
(don't mind me)
Here are a few more.......

The fates lead
him who will-
him who won't,
they drag.
~Seneca~

Trials are but lessons
that you failed to learn
presented once again,
so where you made a faulty choice before
you can make a better one,
and thus escape all pain
that what you chose before
has brought to you.
~A course in miracles~

Regrets
can hold you back
and can prevent the most
wonderful things
taking place
in your
lives.
~Eileen Caddy~

It is good to have an end
to journey towards
but it is the journey that matters,
in the end.
~Ursula Le Guin~

Hey Semperfortis and Helen, what one particular quote of yours strikes your fancy the most? From the quotes that I gave, mine would have to be Julius Ceasar's "I had rather be first in a village than second at Rome."

Hey Risitar/
Well,
The quotes I give would be the way I am feeliing for the time being or have felt....
All quotes and sayings have deep meanings!
For each quote there is a feeling deep within ones own mind, I suppose!
So,
All quotes given,by myself, or other members, must ceratinly have a reason behind them......
That's my opinion anyway!
