Britain is not our enemy.

But what concerns me the most is that these terrorists caught today were British born citizens of Pakistani decent; the terrorists behind 7/7 were also British born. In other words, home grown. What in the UK is causing these people to turn against their country like this?

Blame it on the imams they have in the UK. Remember that guy who supported the attacks on 9/11? The guy with the hook.
They allow people like him to like in the UK. And they are brainwashing the youngsters, like Richard Reid.

Actually the trend towards diversity instead of assimilation is causing some of the problems today. It used to be when someone emigrated to another country they were assimilated by that country's culture. People learned the language and customs of their new country. These days the Leftists, both in the US and UK have made that almost a crime. As a result instead of having Britons or Americans of say Pakistani descent, you have Pakistanis living in the UK or US. There is no feeling of loyalty to their chosen country, no feeling of belonging. This can create a vacuum that is sometimes filled by extremists.

C'mon, learn to be responsible and own up for what is yours and stop blaming others. That's the first step in solving the problem. When all the peace-loving muslims of the world we keep hearing about (but rarely seeing) finally stand up and put a stop to what their own brothers are doing, then this sad chapter in human history will finally be at an end.

[edit on 8/10/2006 by centurion1211]

seeing as most of these groups have been funded by the US goverment or have links to the US goverment through proxies (u get the picture)

read the news muslims have condomed terrorists (the media dont really cover it very well) heck when im at mosque we have the imans condeming this.

each time a home, family is killed a terrorist is born,

the only way all muslims (and not just a small voice) will stand up and say enough is enough is when i see all americans and israelis condem the deaths of thousends of our muslim brothers and sisters ,

its a two way streat. you cant expect all muslims to stand up , if your bredrin dont aswell

my ref to the question (at the root of almost all majour terroritsm they were created for the intrest of the US)

thank fully he has been arrested (to late)
imans that have preached hate have been asked to leave local mosques,
hence why they started preaching in streats while modertes kept away from his rants and so forth

Seems someone rounded up some of the most obnoxious and ill informed closet nazis ("OHHHH MY GOD HE SAID NAZI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!") on ATS, and dumped them in this thread.

And waddaya know, Xphiles started it..... lmao, I should not be stunned, but I really am. Really. I mean, I did my homework on you Philes, I know your angle and all, but must you be so..... blatant? Why dont you just come out and say it? Please. Dont IMPLY you are anti Islamic because of lack of education/ lack of experience/ right wing agenda, just state you position, and more importantly, the CAUSE of your stated position.

As for the UK being an enemy of the US.... well, sometimes I wish we would tell the US Government to hit the road. The US Government never had, and never will have my support..... oh dear, I MUST be a terrorist sympathizer, right? lmfao

The UK is sympathetic to Muslims in general? And why the hell shouldn't we be?

Racial and religious intolerance stinks whichever side it is coming from. Terrorists and extremists of any creed should be weeded out and dealt with. When the IRA was bombing us (and being supported by Americans, don't think we've forgotten that one!) did anyone try to say that Catholics were our enemy? No one with any sense did anyway. Did we even say that America was our enemy? No. Its a shame that the most powerful country on earth is also the most paranoid, looking for bogeyment at every turn.

There are enough real bogeymen out there with Al Qaeda and Hezbollah without imagining them and generalizing about entire populations.

Please don't forget that a very large catalyst for this hatred of the west is US foreign policy, which has incited attacks all over the world, UK included so shouldn't the question be; is the US our enemy?

Well, I predicted on a couple of other discussions that it wouldn't take long for the blame for what happened today to be spun so that the U.S. is considered to be at fault.

And here on this thread it appears.

Well the idea was to detonate explosives over US cities so Im gonna take a stab in the dark and guess they were trying to attack the US???

The question alot of people continually fail to ask is why?

I'm sorry but reading the first post just made me angry. Britain has a large Muslim population so therefore we are an enemy of the US?
I have never heard anything so ridculous, and I heard George Bush say the French don't have a word for entrepeneur.

Alot of Brits also hate Bush. This must be further evidence of our secret amassing of forces which will be used to subjugate the US.

I think you'll find the UK has a large Muslim population because unlike the US, we are not so quick to lay blame on an entire division of the population because of the actions of an incredibly small minority. I think you'll find that alot of Muslims condemn the actions of the terrorists who twist the words of the Qur'An and the teachings of Islam to suit theor purposes.

I am an working class, caucsian atheist. I have an a large number of Muslim friends. Does this mean that they are likely to corrupt me into becoming Muslim and then sacrificing my life while taking others with me?

What a ridiculous statement.

As an Englishman i have watched the presence of the Muslim community in my country grow somewhat alrmingly in the last few years. I am not rascist and have never had any bother with the Muslim community until about 3 year ago.

A gentleman i worked with who was Muslim was a genuine nice bloke born and bred in England. One day he vanished from the face of the planet. It was presumed by collegues he had simply resigned and prehaps had found something better.

Approx 6 months later i bumped into him one day and asked how he was and whee had he been.

He told me he had been to Iraq to fight against the British and US forces. He was twisted in the head definitely not the same person who i had once known. Being an ex military man myself i explained to this man that at the time both my brother and brother in law both serving in UK Armed Forces had been serving in Iraq. To this he couldnt care less and was excited when telling me about the training he had been given and how he had been out fighting and shooting at our forces. THIS MAN LIVES IN OUR COUNTRY?????????????? He received his education and on his return his unemployment benefits from OUR TAXPAYERS?????????? He told me he was sent to fight by the elders of his community. A community based in the north of England. So yes our country is stupid however not all Muslims should be tarred with the same brush a majority of them are decent genuiine people.

What does shock me is the amount of Illegal immigrants allowed into our country unchecked who could possibly be terroists in the making. I visited france this week and neither on my outbound journey or inbound journwy from the port of Dover was my vehicle or passport and travel documents checked. I was shocked over in Calais (France) at how many Muslim immigrants were hiding at the side of the motorway near the port hoping to conceal themselves under the canopy of the next passing lorry hoping to sneak themselves into this country un-noticed. This is whee the goverment needs to clamp down as they are letting them walk in freely and unannounced. This i took some pictures of which i will try and post shortly.

Most British Muslims i would say are decent but yes our country is somehow slipping by allowing a breeding ground for terrorist activity

I think you will also find that many British soldiers who return home will be boasting of how many people they killed. Never mind our actual forces who are already marching up and down the streets of these countries, escorted by tanks, military helicopters, guns, RPG's, and god knows what else.

War changes people, and it isn't just Muslims who are affected by it. I daresay that many Muslims will be shocked and possibly saddened by the lives they were forced to take; just as many Brits are.

We are all human and we are all open to change. Nobody is able to survive such a situation and emerge exactly as they were before.
It is likely that he was so enthusiastic because he had found a new passion for his faith and his homeland.

Well personally as a veteran of Bosnia, Iraq (X2) and Sierra Leone i can positively say it hasnt changed me in the slightest. Trust me i have seen some horrific sights in war and i feel the same as before. As a proffesional who received proffesional training it opened my eyes but it certainly didnt change me.

First off as a UK national living in the UK, i find it grossly offensive that our so called cousins from across the pond suddenly decide to brand Britain as an enemy country. What next? Britain on the axis of evil? Get a grip USA !! It just goes to show how many Americans know nothing of what goes on outside their own country as many of you don't visit other countries!! .
Right that's my angry rant over with, now let's apply some common sense please!. Britain has always been a multinational society. Since the 1800's we have had many foriegn immigrants comming into this country without any problems. Britain stood alone against the evils of the Nazi's until 1942 when America finally decided to take arms against the Nazis themselves. Yes, Britain had an Empire, but to be honest it is an excuse to blame all of today's problems on an Empire that's been dead over 50-60 years ago ! The world is no longer coloured in pink !!.
What is happening in today's world is a result of the end of the Cold War. Since 1945 the World was in statis, locked in the grip of two superpowers with enough nuclear missiles to blow the planet to bits. There was war by proxy waged by both USA/USSR ie Vietnam, Angola, Korea, Cambodia, Cuba (in which we very nearly did nuke ourselves to hell). With the end of the Cold War we have seen the release of the iron grip and all the old ethnic/religious tensions have now come to the boil.
As far as the UK is concerned, i personally think it was a mistake to not limit the amount of immigrants comming into the UK. No border controls in the EU was a huge mistake. The strain on our country is evident with NHS at crisis point, higher council taxes etc etc. The overwhelming influx of migrants has led to alot of resentment and tension and preferential treatment, particularly that of the Muslim community. This is something the people of the UK needs to address.
However that does not make the UK an enemy state! The UK has troops in Iraq and Afganistan fighting the so called War on Terror, rightly or wrongly. Let's not forget that groups in the UK funded the IRA for many years without realising what terrorism really meant. The UK had to endure 30 years of bombings. I grew up with it. Now after 9/11 you know what it is like to have terror. You should also look at your own country. What about the Oaklahoma boming and Timothy McViee?. Then you have Waco. So before labelling other countries, particularly your allies as an enemy state, think! Carry on the way you are and one day America will wake up and really will find it has no friends !.

Ok, that's my 2p's worth over, but you must appreicate that as a British person i was deeply offended by the comments that started this thread!

I doubt its that simple an answer, 9/11 happened before the current wars. But my question was more oriented toward the assimilation issue. Someone is influencing these people and keeping them from adopting more moderate views. I think the UK needs to do something because having your own citizens being brainwashed from within is very dangerous.
