Russia's space agency is seeking volunteers for a 520-day 'flight' to Mars and back.

To qualify in the first round of selection, you would need to be aged between 25 and 50 years.

Being a doctor, engineer, biologist or computation instrument specialist would win you extra points during the selection process, according to an announcement posted August 3 on the web site of Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos). The announcement didn't specify how many of the five winners would need to be male or female.

I think this is pretty awesome. I'm surely going to put in an application, just to say I did.

I'm not having any luck finding the supposed announcement on the Roscosmos site, so 500 ATS points (in the form of an FSME applause) to the first one who does and posts it here.

Nope, cmdrkeenkid, I simply cannot find that announcement. Perhaps get
Dulcimer onto this, I think he knows Russian, or do you as well?

It would be pretty fun thogh, wouldnt it? Could you imagine being closed up with these completely random people for a year with people watching you all the time? Like Big Brother, but worse. You don't win any money!
nah, Id do it.

So far 70 people have lined up for this experiment. Wish I didn't have kids, bills etc. would be fun to do.

More than 70 people have volunteered to be confined in a mock mission to Mars – for 520 days. It would be the longest simulation of its kind.

The Institute of Medical and Biological Problems (IMBP) in Russia is undertaking the isolation study to learn more about the personal dynamics of long-duration space travel, according to Russian media reports. An actual round-trip mission to Mars could last about 30 months – about twice as long as this simulation.

Five people will be eventually be selected for the study. They will spend 250 days on a simulated space trip to Mars. Then, three of the five will leave the mock spaceship for a simulated "landing on Mars" that will last 30 days. The five participants will then embark on a 240-day journey "back to Earth". They will communicate with mission control by email.
