Israeli air strikes have taken out every ground point of entry and exit from Beirut. Effectively cutting off all aid to people who need it desperately. Also it will help eliminate the possibility of Syria re-supplying Hezbollah, according to the Israelis...

BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- After bombing the last land routes into Beirut, and effectively cutting off the Lebanese capital from relief supplies, Israel issued a statement saying the attacks were designed to thwart Syrian attempts to arm Hezbollah.

The air strikes closed main roadways and four key bridges into Beirut from the north. It was the first time the Israel Defense Forces has hit the area north of the capital during the 24-day conflict.

"Syria is determined to continue rearming Hezbollah and supply it with weaponry used to attack Israel," said an IDF statement. "The IDF is determined to stop this flow of arms to Hezbollah. The attacks on the bridge last night, which connect Syria and Lebanon, were to this end."

This is a painfully ugly thing we are seeing. A people who need help are denied aid because it must be delivered along "enemy supply lines".

Obviously this wasn't about a border skirmish, nor was it about a kidnapping. Going by how they have done things in the past, moving people from their homes and forcing them out of the area. They are trying to play it off with their step-in and step-out routine acting as though they are not in it for the land but this 1.5KM jump to a 70KM stretch all the way to the Litani speaks powerfully that this was a move for expansion. Condoleeza Rice knew it when she spoke of the New Middle East and in Israel they are collecting for The New Israel Fund. Water, Oil, Gas ,new tourism industry, financial banking center, Ports, beaches, casinos,and farming. This new wave of Antisemetism will be a good excuse for Israel to make a call to all Jews to return to the homeland and to help them expand. Mr. Wertzl fully understood the positivity in anti-semetism when it came to population expansion in israel from decades ago.

They need to blast them back to the borders before they get any such idea and soon before they start laying mines down and moving in troops.

It's whether it is disproportionate that is the question.

Ostensibly this conflict occured because Israeli soldiers were abducted and 3 were killed inside Lebanon. Israel's response was to level most of Lebanon's infrastructure and kill close to 900 Lebanese civilians whilst even saying they are not fighting Lebanon per se, but Hezbollah.

So how is this saving the captured Israeli soldiers?

Israel said that Hezbollah controlled the South of Lebanon but we see Israeli bombing throughout the entire nation including the capital Beirut.

Where is Hezbollah in the Christian North of Lebanon which Israel is also bombing at will?

We were then told that the conflict was to eradicate Hezbollah because of their attacks on Israeli civilians. Which should be noted that Hezbollah didnt start to fire its rockets into Israel until after Israel started it's strategic bombing campaign over Lebanon. Nasrallah has repeatedly said he would halt the rocket attacks on Northern Israel if Israel would cease it's strategic bombing.

So how is this preventing Israeli from suffering rocket attacks? It seems that Israel's escalation has caused Hezbollah to respond by firing its rockets. If Israel wanted to stop the rockets it could by stopping its attacks on Lebanese civilians.

Come on. Israel has with drawn from the Gaza, withdrawn from Lebanon all supposedly because those were conditions of peace and look where its gotten them. Nowhere. Sure it did, that's why Israel violated Lebanese airspace on countless occasions following the 2000 withdrawal. You do realize that breaching a countries airspace is a recognized act of war. Also can I draw your attention to the Israeli annexation of the Shebaa Farms which is Lebanese territory. Israel has illegally occupied this bit of land for almost 40 years. Care to tell me why Lebanon should sit idly by whilst another nation occupies its territory?

What is this Zionism 101? That is a fabrication. It is Israel who wants more and more land. We have direct quotes from Israeli leaders from Herzl, to Ben-Gurion to Ariel Sharon talking of Greater Israel. Israel has its eye on permenantly absorbing the West Bank and Southern Lebanon up to the Litani River.

By your logic Germany, Italy and Japan should belong to Britain and the United States because they attacked us and we defeated them. International law does not allow borders to be changed due to war. Israel has been told to withdraw from the Palestinian territories by the United Nations and it has not complied. Israel is in breach of international law and defies the UN.

You pro-israelis keep saying they withdrew they withdrew. When and to where? 5 feet away? If they withdrew why did they interfere in their government especially when they didn't even get a chance to start. They cleared all the Israeli settlers out just so they had a clear shot at the palis and nothing more. Just like fish in a barrel. If they were so worried about Peace then the recognition could have came later when Israel showed them they truly wanted to work with them and make things better. About the "daisy cutter" missiles...WTF are you on about? A daisy cutter is an air-fuel device, not a few kilos of HE with some BB. Admittedly, it's still a nasty weapon to use, but it isn't a daisy cutter.

NPR reported last night that there is only one road left in Lebanon unscathed. Israel's own resupply line?
