At this point, no one really knows. I think most of us are holding out in hopes of some gentle prodding in the right direction by the powers that be.

I'm going to let the cookie's timer run out and see what happens per my hypothesis in my previous post. I think this may lead to another clue.

hey people…

a) PLEASE don’t read anything negative into my ‘tone’, okay? ‘cause it ain’t there… my wife is in the hospital, been there for a week and ain’t comin’ home soon…. stress stress stress *sighs* So if I seem short, rude, snotty, snooty, itchy, arrogant or sphincter-like, I am indeed ALL of those things but it has Nothing to do with You personally, this game, or ATS in general, okay? thanks!

b) ALL the .jpg images have the word “Ducky” encoded in them… like this:

“ÿØÿà__JFIF_____d_d__ÿì__Ducky__________ÿî__Adobe_dÀ____ÿÛ_„__”

I doubt it means anything other than that’s the workstation the pictures were Photoshopped on or some other totally mundane thing like that…

.jpg images are numbered 0-8 and 31-39 (ie. 31.jpg, 32.jpg, 33.jpg etc.)

31-38 are the spiral galaxy image, which changes RANDOMLY every time you refresh the page.

c) the ‘homepage’ for alltheufoanswers is NOT an HTML document, it is a PHP script… (try typing in index.cgi, you’ll get a page not found, then try index.php , presto.)

(if you understand cgi/php stuff, skip the next section)

(For those of you who don’t know about scripts, they are the programs that process information on the web… like when you come here to AtS and type stuff in the box and click on the SUBMIT button? That information you typed is sent to a Script, which processes it (your post) and then generates a new web page (with your post on it) Scripts are everywhere these days… online shopping, forums, give us your email address, etc. You do NOT need a SUBMIT button to have a script do stuff. A script can be programmed to do stuff automatically, like, every time a visitor hits the pages (or reloads/refreshes the page) a ‘random’ image/text/mp3/midi or whatever can be pulled from a database, wrapped in the appropriate html tags, and sent back to your browser as a ‘web page’.

When your browser surfs the internet, it carries a lot of data along with it, things like “HI, I’m a Netscape Browser version number 4.7, I understand these languages, I have these plugins, etc. etc.” One of the bits of data it carries with it is Where it just came from… “I just came from ATS, I just came from Bobs House of Porn, I just came from a bookmark, etc.” Knowing where folks came from can be pretty cool, a script can look at that and say “okay, all you folks that came from ATS, I’m going to build you a web page with All The Answers on it, all you folks that came from Bobs House Of Porn, I’m going to build you a web page full of leather and latex goods, and all you folks that came from bookmarks, I’m going to build you something ‘special’ etc. etc. When we type our “answers.html” into the URL line, that becomes Where we just came from, the script is looking at Where we just came from and comparing it to a list in a database. If where we came from is in the database, the script generates a web page based upon where in that database our answer is… “oh” says the script, “rendlesham.html is in my database, but it is not the first item in the database, it is number blah de blah, so this is what I do when that happens, I say ‘your response is not correct’, then I say ‘your mission is active’ then I print out a 48 hour countdown clock… oh ya, I also shove a buncha cookies onto their computer so I can keep track of what all the silly humans are doing”)

d) I’m willing to wager that all the “answers.html” are already listed in the database, the scripts have been written and tested, all the needed clues are already out there, and the Three Amigos (after many many hours of hard work) are now sitting back and watching us bash our brains out.. I can’t imagine that, what with all the Normal crazy crap they have to put up with each and every day that they would create a game that Requires a lot of human (administrative) interaction.

e) I’m probably dead wrong about everything I just typed.

f) Thank you all (but especially the staff and management of ATS) for helping me to take my mind off of my woes for the past hour… you can’t imagine how helpful this has been.

and, as always,

Rock On

You're right on all counts. Ducky is put in all photoshop documents, I believe. But everything else...great post. I never understood anything about php. Now I know a bit. I'm saving a list of what shows up as "future answers."

The same seems to happen whenever you put in ..../AnswerX/AnswerY.html

Anything happening on ATS at the time when the timer runs out??

Infra_red:

web sites can be set up just like folders on your computer... you know how you can have a folder inside a folder inside a folder etc.? The way the internet tells what folder to go in is by the backslashes " / " in the address (yourname.com/folder1/folder2/thegoods)

the link you provided showed that you were going in a few folders (allthewhatever.com/barney/betty/hill/ufo/more/more/more)

The script building the web page is looking for the pictures in the First folder, but trying to build the page in the second (or third or forth) folder (which don't even exist) so it is getting lost trying to find the pictures...

they can fix this by adding some dots and stuff to the script (and they probably will now that you've mentioned the problem)

oooop, telephone, hope it's Good News...

Good post torbjon. The only thing I have to contend with is the "future answers" thing. Because of the cookie that tracks what question we are currently on, I would imagine that the only way you will get a confirmation for an answer is by typing the correct "answer.html" when the cookie counter is at the right question number. We found that in the last game. Now whether or not there will be a different error message when you type in a future answer, I don't know. The rendlesham answer for example, might be a future answer.

so the phone call WAS some potentially good news, yay! it would seem the worst is over but I'm still knocking on wood every time I say those sorts of things... (went in for a rash, they discovered blood clotts near the heart *shudders*)

um, I've never played any of the games here, don't really know what they do or how they work... easter egg hunts for brainiacs is what I always thought (I'm lacking the brainiac part, so I seldom play... today has been special)

I haven't even Looked at my cookies... too much stuff in there and I don't wanna mess with it.

keep in mind though, whatever is in that cookie could relate to an item in a database, which relates to another item in another database, etc. So a number 1 might not mean number 1, it might mean number 27, or Miss April, or Alfred E. Newman *shrugs*

I only went off on php/cgi scripts because I saw people talking about Source Code and to point out that I don't believe that "rendlesham.html" is an actual, physical html document but rather just the output of a script...

if you google "alltheufoanswers.com/rendlesham.html" you get ZIP, ergo the page either doesn't exist or it hasn't been indexed yet (which seems unlikely to me)

Since the pages aren't really pages but rather Output from a Program, it can Glitch from time to time or format differently on different peoples computers etc....

people should be aware of that when dissecting this problem, what we see is dynamic Output from a Program, NOT static "hardcopy"...

I'm not advocating that anybody try to hack or crash the script, but I would suggest experimenting (something I've done very little of, only discovered this game a few hours ago, and a few hours from now I doubt I'll be spending any more time on it)

Has anybody tried pumping in an answer with more than 256 characters in it yet?

I've played with some of the 'no-no' characters !@#$%^&*?()[][] which is what lead me to the script conclusion (which very well could be wrong, maybe the three amigos really are sitting there plugged into their computers and monitoring everybody all of the time *shrugs* stranger things have been known to happen... I just kind of doubt that, that's all)

I've also tried looking for nested directories (folders within folders) but haven't found any... (played with backslashes and dots and stuff, nothing fancy)

Right now I'm thinking that one of those people who sit around clipping coupons all day long would have better luck finding stuff just by typing in random "answer.html"s than I'll Ever have trying to 'crack' the code or follow the clues... hard to beat dumb luck, ya know?

hmmm...

phone again... hope this is even more good news (knocks wood)

None of the answers mean anything to anyone unless we know how they were gotten. Who the hell is Timothy Good?

Edit: The author of the book Above Top Secret. Duh. I looked at that book, too.

How, Her Majesty's Fliers Reach the Stars

Fliers: Has to be UFOs or Rockets.
Her Magesty: The queen? of what?
How the reach the stars?: Warp drive, rocket boosters, some kind of propulsion system.

Just my brainstorming.
