No seriously though it's good! The more we rule out, the closer we get to the truth. And honestly I wouldn't COMPLETELY rule anything out. The last game was sneaky in parts and if this one is going to be harder, it makes sense there's gonna be more sneakiness.

As well as ATS saying to trust no one. So it's good to keep in mind anyways

If you remember the last game, it takes some time. That number is hand-coded into the page (there's no automatic script from urchin that's reporting on that page).

We assumed that the powers that be got the stats mailed to them or updated live on some page and that they will update the referrals as they see fit.

The best way to do it is really just spread it around on a bunch of domains. Here's some domains I've put it on:

harmony-central.com
geocities.com
facebook.com
myspace.com
line6.com
ultimate-guitar.com
uiuc.edu
yahoo.com
torrentspy.com

Now one thing we never determined is whether or not you had to have a separate IP for those referrals. For instance it is possible that only my first domain registered for the counter. Either way, this is how we tackled it last time and it worked eventually.

That sounds more promising, than ref: 0

I don't think the clues we were working on matter at all.

This number seems to be key here.

But also, entering anything in the .html format erases the ref number from the screen I see.

There is a new graphic link on the ats home page where the "Part of the game..." graphic also shows up once in a while. It's of a weird green jet with SKY written on the tail that sends you to the aliens and ufos forum. Might be something.

Yay that we found the game! I followed most of the last game, but since I'm not that bright and anything I thought of was already been tried, I felt I didn't have anything to bring. This time I'm willing to go the extra mile though.

Going to try to put the link on a few Norwegian pages at least, that might help.

I'm thinking this number is actually a multiple of the actual referral count. Remember in the last game there were times it would hardly budge, and other times it zoomed pretty fast...

Just a thought.

There are loads of ways, but blogs are the quickest.

Maybe see if you do make references if there is a way to tag your entry with the url. Tagging helps! If you are pushing RSS feeds yourself you might try putting the url in there too. Some sites allow visitors to create custom RSS feeds.

In general if you are interested in high search engine page ranking you should check out something that´s called Tag & Ping (Technorati) and Wordpress.

For now blogging is good to keep it simple and fast.

i think there is a multiplier on the ref..

When the mods gave us the hits referrals and answers attempted it was a lot larger than the 150 target we had to hit half way through maybe X 10 .you might have been number 120

Yea I've had 6 friends click on the links from varying domains as well. It's more of a collective thing, and as Mechanic said, the counter goes up only when the powers that be decide to code it into the page.

That being said, keep spreading the link!
