The new Brittish Ambassador in Baghdad has openly admitted that Iraq is .ing towards a Civil war between the ethnic factions. He allso stated that Brittish troops in Basra are planning to dramatically step up operations against Shia gunmen.
Civil war is the most likely outcome in Iraq, Britain's outgoing ambassador in Baghdad has warned, in a confidential memo to ministers obtained by the BBC.

William Patey, who left the Iraqi capital last week, also predicted the break-up of Iraq along ethnic lines.

Mr Patey wrote: "The prospect of a low intensity civil war and a de facto division of Iraq is probably more likely at this stage than a successful and substantial transition to a stable democracy.

This is a serious claim made by Mr. Patey. Alltough i would have classified the current situation, with approx. 100 people killed each day, a civil war.
Will the USA and the coalition be able to stop the sectarian violence, or is the country doomed?
Will Coalition remain in the sidelines if the full civil war breaks out? Or will US and UK troops pick a side to support?
