The US and Brazil, two of the main players in collapsed global trade talks, say a deal could be reached in months.

Link: news.bbc.co.uk...

It should go without saying that while the American economy, for whom the entire world will be now open for exports, will benefit from that trade agreement, the socialist economies of Continental Europe will weaken. Even without this elimination of trade barriers, the German economy is shrinking because German entrepreneurs are fleeing to the US. This trade agreement will be the final nail in the coffin of Continental Europe.

The reason for why Continental European economies will collapse is that this will eliminate the existing trade barriers and create a level field for everyone. The EU is a protectionist customs union, search ATS and you'll find an old thread about European protectionism, just like I did yesterday.

Whereas the American economy will benefit, because Americans are able to compete on a level field - they are now trying to convince Latin American countries to sign the FTAA, which would create a free trade zone, not a protectionist customs union.
