Was just reading the Fox News website and it seems that Venezuala President and Iranian President are forming quite the bond(which of course is there mutual hatred for the U.S.) This is quite disturbing if you really think of the consequences this involves, not only did Hugo Chavez just reach a deal with Russia on weapons, but the Iranian President said He thinks he has found a TRENCHMATE with Hugo...I think alot is about to go down everyone we gotta watch out for the next WWIII.....Thanks for your time and tell me what you guys think will materialize out of this

and here is the link to the Story on FOX

Could this meeting also have been in regards to Venezualia possibly joining in on the Iran Oil Bourse?

It could very well be that Iran is trying to rally its alliances in preperation of a possible US invasion to quelch Irans Nuclear ambitions. Or even over the Israeli-Hez. conflict.

As I understand it Chavez is in Iran to open a new Venezuelan embassy.

Of course whilst there there'll be meetings about oil and marketing it and the pricing policies each wish to pursue and where they might agree and be of use to each other.
Naturally their shared feeling that they are under threat of attack from the USA at any given moment has done wonders for their mutual understanding, but hey what did anyone expect would come of that?

.....plus it gets right up the nose of right-wing America (and makes them look silly as they froth about 'WW3' or 'doing something' about these guys whilst flipping somersaults pretending to be good ol' honest to goodness peaceable respectful democratic freedom loving types).

But as for lining up for WW3?!

I wish folks would try a little perspective here.

Go check out the size of air-force the (not even delivered ......and if it's anything like the supposed Mig 29 deal that was being talked about for umteen years may never even be delivered) 24 Russian jets are supposed to 'threaten'
(how many thousand fighter jets does the US have?)
Ditto Iran's air-force.
Much smaller, much lower tech and probably far less well trained.

I suggest the look for anything like a remotely credible bogeyman continues.

well there are alot of things to be concerned with here with that visit...yes Hugo was there to talk about the new embassy and other things of that nature, but you would also be very ignorant to think that they aren't plotting and scheming to some degree...In the article i posted Hugo Chavez was boasting about the new deal made by Russians as far as the weapons deal...And he said after that, if all goes well then maybe one of these days they can be a big export of weapons...But another point that i might add is, what makes you think that Iran wouldnt give Venezualas Country a WMD of some sort in the future... With the Iranians think'n "hey were too far away to cause any kind of damage over in america, so # lets just give some highly destructive weapons to Venezula and they can deal with it...We are seeing that kind of situation with Iran right now involving Hezbollah and Isreal...Just a thought...Im definitley not saying that WWIII is eminent, but things are moving in place right now for something destructive....Any more thoughts ATS?

I'd put my money on this too.

Chavez pledged that his country would "stay by Iran at any time and under any condition."

....

He invited Iranian oil companies to invest in Venezuela. Venezuelan state TV also reported that the countries are considering having Iran participate in a natural gas project off the Venezuelan coast. The two nations are members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries - Iran is the world's No. 2 oil exporter and Venezuela No. 5.

"We are with you and with Iran forever. As long as we remain united we will be able to defeat (U.S.) imperialism, but if we are divided they will push us aside," Chavez said.

During his trip, Chavez is to meet Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranian state television said.

"We do not have any limitation in cooperation," Ahmedinejad was quoted as saying. "Iran and Venezuela are next to each other and supporters of each other. Chavez is a source of a progressive and revolutionary current in South America and his stance in restricting imperialism is tangible."

Chavez boasted in Moscow on Thursday that Russia had helped his country break a U.S.-imposed "blockade" by agreeing to sell fighter planes and helicopters worth billions of dollars to Venezuela.

Chavez is also hoping to set up Kalashnikov weapons plants and ammunition plants in Venezuela under Russian license.

During his visit to Qatar, which began Friday, Chavez said Venezuela could eventually export guns and ammunition to Bolivia and other allies once these plants were built.

Chavez accused the United States of "threatening" to stop supplying replacement parts for the weapons to leftist Bolivian President Evo Morales' government. If the U.S. follows through, Chavez said, "we could supply Bolivia... and other friendly countries that also require a minimal level of defense."

Bilateral trade last year between Iran and Venezuela amounted to $1 billion. Iranian investment in Venezuela includes a production line for tractors and several housing projects.

Of course Iran and Venuzuela won't announce a possible oil bouse participation of Venuzuela, they want to surprise the US. According to other sources Venuzuela is interested in this bourse for quite some time, so is Russia.

Lets see what happens in the end of September, when Iran opens its bourse.

- OK, if that's the spin you want to put on it.

But it is equally fair to say that any political meeting by anybody then could be termed 'plotting and scheming'.
Maybe Bush and all the others at the recent G8 meeting were plotting scheming against Iran and Venezuela?

.....or maybe Iran and Venezuela sometimes talk about where their interests coincide (and that doesn't necessarily equate to the world revolving around the USA or anybody else)?

The oil bourse was mentioned; that's a far more likely subject for them to have been discussing......and if they do do it it'll be because it suits their interests and not primarily because of any effect it'll have on the USA (which is highly debateable anyway).

In the article i posted Hugo Chavez was boasting about the new deal made by Russians as far as the weapons deal...And he said after that, if all goes well then maybe one of these days they can be a big export of weapons.

- All I am pointing out is that those 'big arms deals' have been talked about (by several parties) in relation to Venezuela and the Russians for ages, several years.
Few seem to actually transpire.

In those circumstances (and especially in regard of the piffling 24 new fighter jets, which have not even arrived and may - like the Mig 29 deal before them - never arrive) I think talk of WW3 is laughable.

Equally claims about Iran's 'strength' or even in combination with Syria, Venezuela, North Korea or any of those militarily 'pygmy states' is laughable IMO.

But another point that i might add is, what makes you think that Iran wouldnt give Venezualas Country a WMD of some sort in the future.

- ......and do what with it?
Commit suicide?

I don't think so.

With the Iranians think'n "hey were too far away to cause any kind of damage over in america, so # lets just give some highly destructive weapons to Venezula and they can deal with it.

- You can make up anything and scare yourself with whatever fantasies you like but it doesn't make them fact.

I don't see anyone in a rush to suicide their entire nation (which would be the undoubted effect of something like a nuclear strike).

It appears that maybe you do......perhaps that says more about you or 'our' western mindset though, eh?

We are seeing that kind of situation with Iran right now involving Hezbollah and Isreal.

- I don't agree that that is what is going on there at all.

Hezbollah and/or Hamas are not Iran's 'proxies' (any more than they are any of the other ME regional people's who support their 'cause').
Other countries may support them but they did not create them.

..Just a thought...Im definitley not saying that WWIII is eminent, but things are moving in place right now for something destructive....Any more thoughts ATS?

- Well fair enough.
I just wish that if people don't really think WW3 is imminent that they would keep making the reference.

It seems to me like this is a little like self-hypnosis.
If you really want a WW3 then keep on talking about one, keep making it sound possible, maybe even reasonable and soon eneough probable and who knows maybe you'll even get one.

(but the cosy notion that it'll all effect and grievously hurt 'someone else somewhere else' will be possibly the first rude awakening in store)

Actually thats not to far off base...im sure they were plotting and schemeing to some degree...To say Governments of the world dont do that at meetings would just be totally ignorant..And the U.S. is one of the biggest plotters and schemer's ever...And i love America

And if you would of fully read my prior post i said...I didnt think WWIII to be eminent, but there is alot of stuff going on right now that's heating up a huge conflict...im not disagree'n with you at all as far as the oil bourse, but i was simply stating that 2 of the biggest Haters ever of the U.S. are in some talks right now, and there's definitley alot more talked about then just an oil borouse behind doors

I would put my money that they also talked about a possible NATO invasion of Iran, and if that happens, Venezuela would respond USA with no oil. Isn't a good argument?
