This is an old article from 2006. So can we look at what it actually says?

The Chinese have forged a deal with Cuban leader Fidel Castro to explore and tap into massive oil reserves almost within sight of Key West, Florida. At the same time, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who controls the largest oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere, is making deals to sell his country’s oil to China, oil that is currently coming to the United States.

China made a deal with Castro. What is Cuba getting?

The Chinese have already reopened an abandoned Russian oil refinery in Cuba. Much of the gas refined there is believed to be destined for Freeport in the Bahamas, where the Chinese, through front company Hutchison-Whampoa, has developed a massive port facility and airfield.

This helps Cuba. It might be noted that Cuba pumps about 80,000 barrels of oil a day in Havana and Matanzas provinces, but it is of poor quality and meets less than half of the country's needs.

Source

To cut to the bottom line, if this oil is in international waters there is nothing to stop an American company from drilling for it. However, the cost of developing this reserve was prohibitive in the eyes of the oil companies. And with the 1963 embargo Cuba was not going to help, lease, sell, or allow Americans to exploit that reserve.

Follow the money. American oil companies did not jump on this because there would be little, if any, profit for years to come.

Amazing! Spine less Washington! Its time for the American people to take back our government that is controlled by a swarm of tree hugging, save the whales nuts. What's the best way for our enemies to harm us? Its oil. When are we going to wake up! Stand Up! and demand Washington to stop being dependent on oil from the most unstable part of the world! I guess in 20 years when we are all poverty stricken and speak every other language but english, we can at least be thankful for the excess Polar Bear population! Al Gore, your my hero!

Has anyone ever heard of:

1) Solar - a vast array of panels in the southwest desert could supply all the electricity we need...even to produce hydrogen for cars.

2) $600B could have paid for just about all the infrastructure and some.

3) US military personnel could help with construction as part of their duty.

4) More people working out of their homes...how many really need to be present at their offices?

5) Invest what's left over from the 600B including future $ to intensify research into nuclear fusion, tapping ocean currents power, etc...

6) Don't eat any food products made with processed corn, soy, seed oils...

7) Exercise more (bicycles are a good way to get around and commute to jobs we need to be present at) and loose billions of pounds of excess fat on our bodies.

7) Thus we can completely remove ourselves from the middle east - period!

I can go on and on!

Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling that the US is turning us into slaves?

So far, nobody has found any evidence for this to be happening. It's an urban myth. Even Republican officials in Florida (I believe Martinez was even one who came out and said the Chinese are absolutely not drilling anywhere in the region) have came out and said this is not true. Yet the myth continues to persist?

New info debunking the story.

ap.google.com...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Dick Cheney's office acknowledged on Thursday that he was mistaken when he asserted that China, at Cuba's behest, is drilling for oil in waters 60 miles from the Florida coast.
