"Come on, Gabe! It's a club, come dance!"

"Naw, Jess. The song's almost over anyways. I'll finish my beer, and join you in a bit. Anyways, can't leave Dekes here all by his lonesome."

"Alright, It's...OOOOH! I love this song!"

In the violent silence
Of a dream within a dream
You fill my soul with beauty
You're my shiny man machine

"Dekes, lookit her."

"I know, man. I know. She's the only reason you're at this place."

"Yep."

"Man, I don't know about you. That redhead chick slipped you her phone number and you didn't even blink."

"You know..."

"And you trail off and # when she's around. It's irritating as hell."

"Can't help it some days. Lookit her, omae. Look how graceful and beautiful and just...radiant she is."

"Radiant, eh? I've only heard you describe one other thing like that."

I'm sinking in the roses
Falling down to fade away
The velvet blade of apathy
Makes the crush so bittersweet

"Y'know, Gabe...I can see that she's smart and pretty hot. But I don't think she's all you've built her up to be."

"Man, you just don't know. She's been my friend for years. Since highschool."

"Yeah, those three months abscences really did you a ton of good. Remember the whole Kristen thing?"

"Shaddup. I know. But I remember Frank's wedding, too."

"That's nothing. It's not hard to go with your buddy to a wedding."

"Whatever."

And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god

"You're in some sort of funk, man. I know what'll cure it- whiskey. Whiskey or cider."

"Oh man, not cider. Remember the last time we had it?"

"Oh never, oh never, oh never again..."

"Not even if I live to a hundred or a hundred and ten..."

"Hahaha...oh man, those were the days. That where you've wandered in your head?"

"Naw. I'm just watching her. Giving myself something to remember."

"Barkeep! Two SoCos!"

"...like walking mercury."

"What?"

"She moves like she's made of fluid, watch her."

"Give it up, man. Seven years, and she's barely made a pass at you."

Your presence is the night
Your absence is the morning
I'm searching your dark hallways
Trying to find the light

"I know. But I gotta have something to remember."

"Why are you bending yourself so far outta shape?"

"Because I don't know when the next time I'm gonna be back this way will be, or if I'll even have a way to keep in touch with everyone."

"It's just Basic, man."

"Yeah, but after basic, Lord only knows where I'll get posted. If I get assigned to 2RCR, I'm stuck in Gagetown. The Princess Pats? Edmonton or Shilo. I don't even know where Shilo is."

"Slainte."

"Slainte."

"Accch."

"Ooch."

"Doesn't matter where you end up, Gabe. Do you even know if she WANTS to keep in touch?"

Swimming your sad ocean
I'm drowning in your sea
This will all be over soon
And we'll learn to live again

And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god

"Earth to Gabriel!"

"Sorry. No, I don't know."

"Barkeep! Two more!"

"Accch."

"Ooch."

In the evening stars I see your eyes
I hear you speak to me
I miss you now so much it aches
So broken so afraaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiid...

"Whatever, Dekes. You're right. She barely gives me the time of day."

"That's the spirit."

"Barkeep! Two Glenfiddich."

"What're you doing tomorrow night, man?"

"Dunno. Beer and wings at Monahangh's?"

"When do you leave?"

"Eight in the morning, day after."

"Alright. Slainte."

"Aach."

"Ooch."

"So, what're you gonna do about Jess?"

"Dunno. I guess it might be the last time I ever see her, for all I know."

"Nothing you can do, man. Enjoy the night, head home."

And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god...

"Hey boys!"

"Jess!"

"Having fun?-whoa!"

"C'mon, Gabe. We're gonna dance until we can't. I'm going to give you a night to remember."

very nice as usual. I liked how you worked the song into the conversation. I felt for Dekes, his words certainly conveyed his feelings.
