I was alerted to postings on a way out there website called AboveTopSecret. It looks like these people have gotten pretty far in decyphering the clues and getting some answers.

A STOP SIGN has 8 sides- thats a subject at 8.....

An octopus has 8 legs. It has a beak in the center of its legs. This is a subject at 8.

On a different tangent, the table of elements has Oxygen listed at #8

That's the hex code for the color font he's using...just a guess, maybe color is the subject? something to do with hex codes or hexes?
