Iran might easily set things in motion and ignite a war in Bosnia. The western intelligence is apparently more blind than ever in Bosnia at the moment too. This could be something to keep an eye on considering the current situation in Lebanon and all...

Douglas Farah: While Lebanon Boils, Watch Bosnia

Jul 19

There is concern among Bosnian contacts that, if Iran feels things are going badly in Lebanon and that the war needs another front, it would take little to ignite Bosnia. It would not be hard to do and the international presence in Bosnia is greatly reduced. So is the intelligence capacity developed in the late 1990s. Several key intelligence-gathering units have been dissolved in Bosnia in the past six months, meaning the West is more blind there than any time since the mid-1990s.

To date Iranian intelligence maintains a huge apparatus in Bosnia and several dozen, if not hundreds, of trainers with the elite units of the Bosnian military. In addition, several hundred mujahadeen who fought in Afghanistan and then Bosnia remain scattered around Bosnia, many of them still with the elite Bosnia units or in the intelligence apparatus.

It is worth remembering this heavy Iranian involvement in the Bosnian conflict because it was in Bosnia that al Qaeda developed its template for future operations.

Check out this connection with Viktor Bout:

same source

One of the most interesting things is that, while the mujahadeen and Bosnian Muslims were supported by Saudi Arabia and many others, much of the aid flowed through Iran, despite the Shi’ite-Sunni divide. The bridge was Hasan Cengic, an Iranian intelligence agent and later Bosnia’s deputy defense minister who has been designated by the U.S. Treasury Department. Cengic did some of his earliest weapons deals through Viktor Bout, who flew in hundreds of tons of weapons for the Bosnian Muslims in 1992. He later “sold” Cengic at least one aircraft, and perhaps more. Cengic, although working on behalf of Iran, coordinated the Saudi’s multi-hundred million dollar financial support for the Bosnian Muslims as well.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there natural resources in Bosnia? If there are then it might be a possibility...If there isn't, and there are problems, then I don't think anyone will pay attention. It is sad but true..

Also, don't forget that durring the Balkan conflicts of the mid-90's, it was discovered that Iran was funding and sending aid to the Bosnians during their war with Serbia. Iranian militants were in Bosnia helping to train the fighters.

Iran's connections with Bosnia aren't a new thing.

Bosnia and the balkans are important as staging grounds for the war on terror, jihadists recupe there from the more open middle east struggle, and move on from there to recruit from the rest of europe. Meanwhile, native born european muslims move into bosnia and the balkans to be projected into the middle east for the terror wars.

Seems like Bosnia has just passed a new law which discriminates in favor of Bosnian Muslims. The Bosnian Jews are "up in arms" about this new law.

JTA News: Bosnian Jews up in arms about restitution law that favors Muslims

July 21, 2006

Jewish groups are troubled by a new property restitution law in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that officially discriminates in favor of the country’s Muslims.

A law passed earlier this month allows people living in state-owned apartments that were nationalized under the former Yugoslavia’s socialist regime to purchase the dwellings. But the law — backed by lawmakers from the country’s Muslim majority — provides that any apartment previously owned by the Muslim community cannot be purchased if the community objects to the sale.

Terror Trial in Sarajevo

There is a terror trial going on right now in Sarajevo.

The Advertiser: Three face terror charges over Euro plan

A SWEDE, a Turk and a Bosnian went on trial on charges of buying explosives and weapons to carry out suicide attacks on Western targets in Europe.

In a videotape found by the police in one of the suspects' safe houses, men in balaclavas show how to make a bomb. "This weapon will be used against Europe, against those whose forces are in Iraq and Afghanistan," they said in the tape.

Bosnia's liberal Muslims make up almost half the population. Since the September 11 2001 attacks on the United States, the activities of hundreds of former Islamist fighters who stayed in Bosnia after the war have been watched closely.

"Watched closely"? Hmmm, really? I wonder how closely they have been watched lately. They arrested these guys obviously, but I bet there are more of the same kind. And these guys were arrested more than 6 months ago... Ref. initial post: Douglas Farah: "Several key intelligence-gathering units have been dissolved in Bosnia in the past six months".

Aren't these the guys that Clinton was helping during NATO's illegal war in Yugoslavia.? NATO intervened- and the result is the same instability. As far as I know Kosovo is still tense, with a conflict possibly in the near future. Bosnia is just waiting to be reignited. Aren't the "peacekeepers" still in the region to prevent any conflict?

Yup. Exactly one of the reasons I was quite upset that the US got involved. I almost got deployed there.

A conflict that as far as I was concerned was Europe's problem. And like Afghanistan and our aid there, a problem that will come back to bite us on the rump someday.

Yep exactly. Not to mention that Clinton was going to be put on trial for this war, but the Monica scandal overtook that one, and the Republicans got what they wanted anyway. The Yugoslavian war had absolutely nothing to do with NATO, and expecially the US. It was an internal struggle, and the Serbians committed crimes just as much as Bosnians and Croats- yet only the Serbs got punished. Clinton must have been very relieved by the death of Milosevic, because before his death Milosevic was trying to subpoena Clinton to appear in UN court, on charges of illegal war and bombing of civilian houses in Belgrade. But now looks like all traces of that illegal war are buried.

And certainly, thid will bite US and Europe in the ***. The Muslim extremist cells in Bosnia, will obviously spread to the rest of Europe. Sure US helped them in the war, but that does not mean that these guys consider US to be their friend- just a temporary sidekick.

A US diplomat warned that Al Qaeda is using Bosnia for transit...

RFE/RL: U.S. Diplomat Says Al-Qaeda Using Bosnia For Transit

August 18, 2007

A U.S. diplomat has warned that the Al-Qaeda terror network is using Bosnia-Herzegovina as a transit point.

Raffi Gregorian told the "Dnevni Avaz" daily that Al-Qaeda "sympathizers" in the country are prepared to help hide agents as well as provide the group with funding and false documents.
