Well mods and FSMEs can bump and 'sticky' threads. I see what you are saying, but can you imagine the outcry we would have. Do you remember the '250 Club Incident',lol........That would be nothing to the cries of 'elite members getting control of the board',lol. A lot of times well put together threads do not get much debate because there is nothing to debate. For example I have threads with over 60 flags (and over three applauses) that only have 3 pages, and none of it is debate. I have seen countless other members who post rounded threads meet the same fate, there is nothing wrong with it IMHO, it just means you made a perfect thread.

I believe you are right. I mean, take say a second American revolution vs Britney Spears is actually Buddy Holly reincarnated, how can anyone try to debate which topic holds more significance? Everyone knows a revolution is nothing when you have an Obama!

Jokes aside, my only concern is an important thread missing the radar. While they are plenty visible on category pages, people like me that mostly browse the recent topics page probably miss a lot? Also, an applause thread page may coax an otherwise uninterested member into broadening their interests?

I agree, something needs to be done. But what and if I do not know. That is for the high staff to decide.

As far as I know you can post audio from the Media Portal, I have seen it done before (it started playing as soon as the page opened, but that was corrected).

That is a good idea, and considering that the U2Us received are a result of popularity on ATS, maybe a flags received count would be correct as a way of measuring popularity and trigger the flood control switch.

It could be abused, obviously, but I think most members that reach a high level of popularity have (or gain) a different understanding of their responsibilities.

One more thing I want to put forth is similar to one already put forth a few posts back, but with some modifications.

Maybe we could have a section dedicated to the more educational and research type threads and one dedicated to the more speculative or unknown type threads.

For example:

  • This is an example of an informative type thread:

    -
    The Lakenheath-Bentwaters UFO Incident

  • This is an example of a more speculative or unknown type thread:

-UFO releases intelligently moving spheres! First ever video footage!

That way these two distinct types of threads do not conflict with each other and the top flagged ones of each respected section get seen. I do not think it would take much code to do, but I could be wrong .

Also maybe some time down the line we could have it where when you click on a tab or other thread shown in the 'thread box' on the right side a new window opens. This would eliminate the need to open multiple tabs in ones ISP and would be much more convenient, especially when cross referencing or actively posting in multiple threads at once.

Of course these are all just friendly suggestions from another member of this great site but I hope they are at least considered at some point and time in the not to distant future.

Thanks for the support my friend, and yes those members usually will have a better and more mature understanding of board etiquette.

That's a good idea, and one that I think would not be hard to add or that would add too much work to the servers (although it would need at least one database access when now it does none), but I don't know if people would use it.

Excellent idea. I was thinking along those lines myself after reading a couple of brilliant threads yesterday. A way of following that poster's other threads without having to visit their profile every so often would be useful, although they're normally on the recent posts page anyway.

On that note, a way of finding a certain member's post within some of the larger threads would also be handy too. For example a thread on a recent UFO story that is 23 pages long and all you really want to know is what Internos, Phage or JKROG08 or anyone (just the first names that popped in my head, there are loads more) have posted because you don't have time to trawl through the posts of them all. So would a text recognition system that could filter out pointless flaming, might be a bit tricky that one.

I was also thinking that there should be an annual awards event too where people could vote for their favourite threads of the year, maybe top three, which could be collated and ordered. The winners would receive some ATS gear as prizes and some digital reward to boost their online identity. Maybe this would inspire people to have a go at more interesting threads and would slowly remove the "Foghorn Leghorn Actually Symbolises the Antichrist!!!! - AND I HAVE PROOF!!" threads that some of us find as contributory as syphilis. Other awards could include most helpful member, avatar wizard; and the FSME badges could be altered to be relevant to their field, or fields.

I searched for awards and saw that there had been some debate over it. I don't think annual would be to strenuous, and would be good for the members. But not running an organisation myself, I wouldn't know the logistics in implementing such a scheme or it's eventual product open to all the abuse of any election...

When's the next ATS game, anyone?

    Hi Simon,

Not sure if this has been suggested, most probably has. How about a live chat. Forum styled, but one a lot faster paced than the post, reply.

The threads wouldnt be killed off by this, since topics, conspiracies and so on, require research. The live chat would just provide a grounds to openly discuss and bounce ideas a lot faster.

    What you think?
