ATS, BTS, What would you like to see in the future?

In the future I would like to see:

1. I would like to see mods drop the attitude and the quick fire post closing.
I can understand dealing with idiots all day can make you a bit twitchy, but save it for the people who deserve it. This isn't just referencing my history, I have seen it with much more level heading users than me. Some of you come off like your the absolute authority on a subject, which is ENTIRELY different than being an authority on the website.

Just stop being pricks, subtle or otherwise. (not all of you obviously, just a small minority)

2. I would like to see a "False Flag" type of rating that goes hand in hand with the "Star and Flag" system. We have too many crazy neighbor types posting and not enough Carl Sagans. The sheer amount of duplicate, conflicting, self serving and obviously hyperbolic posts is overwhelming to people who just want to come in and see interesting stuff.

Today it is hard to get to anything interesting because this site in awash in "PlanetX", duplicate home made hoax YouTube Video links and "Earth/America/You will die soon" posts that it makes it time consuming and hard to wade through all the crap to get to the cream.

Every thread seems to be filed with people who I think would actually kill you in person for not believing their conspiracy of the week. You can't even participate in a discussion with being called an agent, liar, or moron.

Not all threads are like this, some are fantastic, but it is getting harder to find them.

What is wrong with a little balance? One of your mods already dismissed my idea without any consious thought.. "not another one" I would imagine he was thinking.. but you know what?
He said you are asked about this "every few weeks" and there are posts on the subject.

Perhaps it has merit?

It doesn't even have to be a system wide system, it could be personal. A few "false flag" clicks and you don't see the same type of post on the front page but only for the individual.. a custom system, you see what you want to see kind of thing.

It would be better than "ignoring" certain people.

3. Organize better, I can't find anything.
Put a link on the front page of ALL the forums in a listing

UFO's
BigFoot
PlanetX
Board Discussions...

This webite has fallen, and I want to see it get back up.

If you don't use it, the MyATS feature can be super-helpful in both of these areas.

You can add all the forums that you're actually interested in to your myATS page, so you don't have to poke through the home page and board home pages to find them. And you can leave off the forums that are full of stuff that annoys you.

Gools made a thread talking about how to use it. The images are a bit out of date, but I think it should be pretty helpful: Customizing myATS.

And if you already do use myATS, hopefully someone else will be helped by this pointer

Is there any way we could have a friends list that is alphabetically sorted?

I know those who friend you automatically go into alphabetical order, so the system must somewhat be in place already.
I think some may benefit from this.....quite substantially. ( hey ash)

Thanks.

I agree with this and have seen it suggested before. It would be wonderful to have a 'Recent Threads' page in the same manner of the 'Recent Posts' page. Often times the sensational troll threads are constantly bumped on the recent posts list while the well thought out threads vanish into the archives after four replies. Or perhaps very popular threads that simply do not interest us dominate the recent posts page whereas a thread we would find interesting would escape our attention after not being very active and would vanish off that list. It would be an excellent idea to have a page fully dedicated to a list of threads in order of creation.

I second that, obviously. It would free up the time it takes me to do it manually and would allow me to focus my time on more important things like color coding my sock drawer or compulsively scrubbing my bathroom floor inch by inch with a toothbrush. This is vital for time management.

Seriously, though. Auto-alphabetic is ideal. For those of us with longer friends lists, it helps find the person we're looking for more quickly.

I still want to see . . . a page where:

1. all replies to my posts are listed.

Like on FREEREPUBLIC.COM's COMMENTS page which lists all my posts and all replies to my posts.

2. A page that also listed all my posts would be welcome but not as critical, to me as a page listing all the replies to my posts.

Scrolling through all the posts on MY ATS threads is a REAL TIME WASTER most of the time.

And time is not something I can just go to 7/11 and buy more of.

Recently, to my horror, I found that I had someone accidentally declared someone a respected foe. From experience, I know that an automated message was sent to that person. As soon as I noticed what had happened I corrected it but, also from experience, I knew that no automated message was sent. I did send a U2U myself.

This happened to me on another occasion, my finger slipped (or something) and I hit the Foe button in error. At that time I didn't know about the automated announcement of foedom so I never contacted the person.

It may be a good idea to generate an automatic message when someone is remove from one's foe list.

There should be an *irritant* button that you can click at the bottom of every post, or every users sidebar. If more than 10 people click on it, an automatic U2U is generated saying something like:

"10 people have flagged this post as irritating, and against the ethos of ATS, please reconsider you attitude."

Just an idea.

Seconded , I also second everything that Gormly says.

Have any of the ideas on this thread been implemented?

For next Christmas, I want Santa to bring me a random image rotator to use for avatars, signatures and threads.

Had the same problem myself, a few months back!

Bothering, to say the least.

My other question:

Why is the search-function without an "advanced search" option?
You know; keyword for author, thread title, tag, etc...
The most basic of forums have this feature...

Rock on!

I've done the same thing before by mistake Phage. What I want to know why the same isn't true when you add someone as a friend. I find that a bit strange to focus on the negative...

Yes I know, it says "Respected Foe" but lets face it, most of the time, there's no respect at all. It gets used more as a "You Are An Irritating Annoyance" Button.

Given that ATS gets used as a networking tool amongst many things (i.e bringing communities together), how about a notification for friends. I've had U2U's before from people asking me why I haven't added them as friends in return. It's not that I didn't want to, it's that I hadn't checked my profile page in ages.

I created a thread in "Board Business & Questions" and was told to post question/'issue' here instead.

Flood Control - Is it time to revisit this policy?

Is flood control for everyone really necessary? Would you barraged by spammers if it was not in place? Or is it overly protective?

I would like to suggest that you guys consider lifting FC for Members who have shown that they are responsible and able to have mature dialogues. Perhaps there could be a high-bar for points and/or number of posts req.

It is a hardship when you are an active member here and are corresponding with a number of people. And also serves, to potentially create a scenario where you forget to repsond to people, or take so long doing it that they get offended...

I know it sounds a little silly, but I don't understand why it needs to be in place for 100% of the community all the time.

Thanks!

Yepp ..... gets my vote.

The ability to express dissatisfaction with a statement without nesscessarily engaging with the "inflammatory " poster/troll , would reduce peoples urge to break ATS` T&C and should defuse blowback.

A negative star rating system would provide a community "sanction" of sorts .

Just adding my voice to those of a like mind . Give us the Blackball icon.

Another vote for negative ratings here. Only allowing positive ratings allows for ignorance to spread.

I started a thread on negative stars last year. What I learned from the thread & U2U's is this. ATS is a business and business is generated by hits.

If a thread gets blackballed. An inquisitive person may not be inclined to click the link. Also, trolling tends to have the effect of generating hits because more people jump into the fray. The science is simple. User Generated Content = User Generated Profit! You can't blame ATS for that! The whole idea is to turn a profitable business - as all successful businesses do!

Sensationalism and lack of evidence promotes general discourse too.

I would like to see an a Not-for-Profit International ATS Group and create an Annual Summit to discuss plans to return the world to the NWR or, New World Republic.

It can be held at a different site snd Country every year and call it
The Creature from ATS Island Summit.

Through member and other donations (no INCs. or Lobbyists) we can establish a Master Plan and through pro bono, charity and donations, commission an expert panel of experts in Global law, economics and finance to draft long term goals within the plan and others to contribute as advocates for a NWR,

And, how about FTP access for member profile and media/upload pages.

I have always been looking for a "thumbs down" type option when reading posts and threads. There are some posts and threads that it would help to have a thumbs down to hint to the person making the statement or the topic that people look down on it.

It would be important to not let the thumbs down have any way of censorship or taking down posts and threads, it should only be used as a hinting tool to the poster.
