ATS, BTS, What would you like to see in the future?

To the best of my knowledge ATS is funded by advertising and donations. I don't know (and nor do I want to know) what the financial status quo of it is. I do have a feature request that would cost a few bucks though.

Right now I'm reading up on a thread about Yellowstone containing 3901 replies. A lot of people are struggling ther trying to make their way trough seismic readings and other data. It is very hard because nobody in the thread holds a geological degree.

In cases like this I would love to see ATS hire a geologist. And in other cases, and other events hire other qualified experts. Even if it was just to give a brief explanation of how to interpet data and some basic explanation of scientific abbrevations etc.

I understand this is not a simple request, especially since it requires funding. However I feel it's an important request if we are ever to find anything significant in piles of data. This goes for the yellowstone thread but also for other threads that ask for heavy research.

why you don't see as many interesting posts anymore on ATS

I will admit that when I first found ATS several years ago it was a really fun site. It was full of not only breaking alternative news, but also speculative news based on either supposition, or some scant evidence posted online or in less than credible news sources.

ATS is still a very good site, but after posting many threads and thinking I may be making a difference in trying to help those who are seeking either answers to life, or the mysteries/conspiracies that promulgate online and by word of mouth, I'm becoming much less motivated to post things I feel are important, or even debate those with opposing views. Why should I? After a few days it just gets buried and forgotten because their is no way to vote the best replies and threads up and view the same.

I think my lack of motivation is due to several reasons. For one, many really good replies or information gets posted and becomes very hot for a period of time, but then as the thread grows, all of the great replies get buried amidst general banal banter, or even nonsensical psychobabble.

I would love for my post to be able to count for something, not saying I'm anything special, but some replies by members are so good that they deserve special mention and attention. But their replies are usually buried because of all the interest and huge amount of replies, and all of the one or two line replies by those who are also interested in the original thread but don't have much to say other than an agreement or short quip.

This is why I have for the most part stopped posting threads, and I think many of the former very popular thread starters are also cutting way back. After all, shouldn't the great threads and replies be singled out and shouldn't we as members be able to choose to view these great replies without having to read through hundreds of pages. From a standpoint of sense, it makes no sense to allow such interesting threads & replies to be buried after a few days because of either the sheer amount of responses, or some other current thread taking precedence.

So again, I suggest the site admin or the person who wrote the code should allow for a system of tabulation of the great threads and even the great replies. These would be chosen by the members by a system of tabulation voting icons across the top of every post that says vote for - best reply, worst reply, most interesting reply, replies by experts, replies in favor of post, replies against post, replies by my friends, replies by my foes, etc.

I also think posts that are very special should also be tabulated and placed from most popular to least popular. This would in no way diminish the forum, since the v viewer could also choose to view the thread in the original format with replies in order of appearance and not ranked.

Again, this site has become too predictable, and it feels like I'm wasting time viewing the same answers and replies over and over, without any way to separate the very good replies/posts from those that really add nothing.

It would be great to click an icon that allows one to view the most popular posts/replies in order of the popular vote. The members would only be allowed to vote say three times for each category to limit self promotion of posts - threads

Also, I have noticed that many of the anonymous replies never get posted because of the policy that if the posters IP address is recognized as a registered member, the post wont be allowed to be posted. I ask again, why is this the policy on a site dedicated to many conspiracies? It seems this is one of those same conspiracies being perpetrated by those in charge and that policy. Any registered member who has some really juicy news that could could possibly endanger their life would obviously want to post anonymously.

So let the computer scramble the recognized IP and then allow those recognized anon posts to be posted. The programmer could cover themnselves from any liability because the computer would then delete any record of who posted the reply.

The anonymous posts wouldn't have to be posted with the identifying IP address as logged on the server, but the IP could be scrambled and then the anonymous post allowed to be posted.

I grow weary of all the improvements many are suggesting which never seem to be acknowledged as something that possibly could happen.

That is why I left for a good while to post on GLP until it was sold to those who censor posts that rock the boat or ruffle feathers.

Until these changes are made, I will refrain from starting very many threads, because it really isn't going to make a difference after it gets buried after the initial interest with no record of how popular the members thought it was.

Well that's my vent for the night, let me know if you agree or disagree.

In answer to all the people who answered me before my thread was closed.

In answer to exuberant1 who stated thus:

Like I could use my vote if I had one to vote your reply as not important...right?"

And I could gather twenty friends from school to vote every post you made as being unimportant....

Every day during computer Class, I could come on here with my friends and suppress people who I disagree with...

*Think about what you are asking for. It is silly and will be abused.

Do you think you and your friends are the only one weith votes who would agree with you? I think it would balance out.

In answer to ravenshadow13 who posted this:

nod* I agree. They have something similar on Yahoo Answers and I think that it is abused there... I wouldn't want to change the environment of ATS to something with "voting." We have flagging for decent threads that are actually decent and members' profiles show how many flags they have. Isn't that good enough?

Actually, no it isn't. There is no way to find threads from months ago unless you know the title. The logging of the most highly regarded threads whether current or years old would be a perfect way to find those older but very important threaD because the copmputer would log them by category by the chosen viewing preference we choose to view.

And in answer to super moderator kinglizard, thank you for making my point for me without even realizing it by posting this:

By keeping all member suggestions in one place it allows staff and owners the ability to quickly and thoroughly access all member recommendations when considering board changes. Otherwise many suggestions will be very difficult to locate considering the size of this board.

I would like to see a tweak to the "My ATS" so that you could track replies of quotes to your own posts, rather than any post in the thread.

Is there any chance that we could get an option to use the same new topic template used in the Breaking News forum in forums other than Breaking News? There are a lot of times when I post something in breaking news that might be better suited for Global Meltdown, but I use Breaking News simply because I like the OP-link-news snippet-post #2-personal comments/thoughts-repeat of link format that template automatically provides us with.

With technology being what it is today I'd like to see Avatars come to life like in the playstation home version. 3D avatar with clothes, skin colors etc... Even alien bodies etc... Now why can't ATS do that? Come on Simon tell me why?

*********************Negative Stars ***********************
rating system

************* I do not agree with your statement **************

Perhaps the ability to also disagree with a post via a negative star system.
Or something similar.

A visual barometer of the level of disagreement with a statement is also useful .

It may even cut down on the ad hominem attacks - as the statement if particularly vitriolic , can be seen to of been "sanctioned" by the community already, removing the need to respond in kind.

The squeaky wheels will be silenced.
More grease for the rest of us.

I would like to see a board that is just to exchange info, websites, charities, organizations, groups, even book recommendations. Just something generic.
So I can say, hey read this great book or here is a great charity.

Have you been to BelowTopSecret.com yet?

The General Chit Chat forum is for random stuff, but there are also forums on music, art, tv, movies, sports, cooking, etcetera etcetera

Your login name and password are the same as for ATS, but you do have to login separately

edit: there is a forum there for favorite websites.

you might have to be a little careful if you want to talk about charities, that you're not promoting them if you see what I mean. I'm not sure exactly where the T&C would stand on it so you might want to contact a Moderator before posting something like that.

I think that is a fantastic idea. So many times when I'm going through a thread and see a really daft post, I want to negative star (or black hole) them!

Additionally I have another suggestion...
What about another profile feature called an alert feed. In this feed, it can tell you every time someone stars (or negative stars) you or anytime anyone quotes you or replies to a post you have made. The items in the feed could link to the specific posts so you can counter-reply or whatever.

When I go onto Itunes and check to see if new ATS mix or BTS mix shows are available to listen too Itunes automaticlly downloads the most recent show (either ats mix,bts mix, or the above politics show). However I don't listen to the above politics show. I wish that they where each there own catagory on Itunes. I think that alot of members would have less hassel if it where that way. For along time I was only listening to the ATS mix. I would get excited thinking a new show was being downloaded only to find out it wasn't ATS mix, but a diffrent podcast all together. [In short,What I would like to see in the future is seperate subscriptions on Itunes for each Mix show.] Hope all is well. Thank you. -MaTeO-

Thanks. The quote is so true isn't it! - We Christians are the ones that give Christianity such a bad name.

I know it has been mentioned before but, I would like to see some sort of way to use a combination of points and money to purchase items from the ATS gear store( I've got my eye on the clock with the saucer)seriously give some of these ATS veterans something to do with all of those points, there is some people with like over a million.

Your alert feed idea is brilliant .
After all ATS is user generated news ...... feedback is crucial, especially when one is trying to foster a sense of community !

I kinda dig these "emergent" systems , bottom up organisation as opposed the top down variety.

Now the question is ........... is there anyone out there .

Another thing that would be really cool to see in the future is more of a variety in the clothes and such that we can purchase. For example, I need a book bag for some college courses I'm going to be taking, but the yellow book bag that's in our gear section just doesn't fit too well. I would be happy to pay a hundo for a nice bag with ATS on it or what not. Come to think of it...I need a new ATS hat aswell. The one I got over the summer is kinda messed up now because I sweeted in it.-MaTeO-

In teh "My ATS" area, where we have archived and visited threads of interest, it there a way to set up an automatic go to on the "Last Post" area, other than having to go to teh page, and having to scroll? I am getting trigger finger Man!!!

Invite only threads. You could open up a thread and just invite the people you wanted. And the ability to ban members from a thread.
Trolls can still ruin things here.
A "name and shame" troll sign. Each member would have a troll button. If over 15 members clicked on it their avatar would simply read "troll."

MORE IGNORES! I need over 30.

Also, a meetup section, though I'm sure this has already been debated and not implemented for understandable reasons.
