StarTribune.com: Ship Lists Heavily, Injuring Passengers

July 18, 2006

The Crown Princess, owned by Princess Cruises, had just departed from Port Canaveral at 3:40 p.m. when it experienced problems with its steering equipment and rolled heavily to one side, Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer James Judge said. Judge said the ship, which began sailing a month ago, listed to the portside of the vessel. He could not immediately say how many degrees the ship listed. Judge did not know the number of people injured or the extent of their injuries. The cruise ship was on its way back to the port and will be met by Coast Guard officials and medical personnel, he said. The ship was 11[ miles southeast of Port Canaveral.

The 113,000-ton ship can hold more than 3,000 passengers, the company's Web site said.

I think this is a new ship. What could be the cause of this? Sabotage? An accident? Bad engineering? Freak wave? Such a huge and modern ship should not behave like that... :shk:
