Security Council votes for N. Korea sanctions

"The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously Saturday to impose limited sanctions on North Korea for its recent missile tests and demanded that the reclusive communist nation suspend its ballistic missile program.

North Korea immediately rejected the resolution and vowed to continue missile launches."

This is not really a surprise but its still a shock. What is the world going to do about NK now?

NK is GOING to continue missle launches! Do you realise what this means?
This is NK completely rejecting the whole world. I personally believe that Japan WILL NOT stand for this!

Nk will do as what NK wants.

As long as they get funding from China, Venezuela and oil incentives from Iran they will have the money to fund future tests.

Now . . . who is going to tell these countries to stop giving money to NK?

Well some country should.. NK is really out there. A country like NK just shouldn't exist.. its sad really but your right marg, unfortunately I don't think the U.S. is able at this time to take control of the NK situation... we are too tied down trying to make the world a better place by dealing with a radical religion atm.

I think a little perspective is in order here. North Korea is not alone in sidelining the UN. Do you forget already that the United States called the UN "irrelevant" when it denied the US request for force to be used against Iraq in 2003?

If the US considers, and states, that the UN is irrelevent why would any nation take it seriously any more? North Korea knows that the US only feigns respect for the rule of the UN when it fits their interests. North Korea can reject these UN demands under that auspices and rationale.

Also if you look at the content of these sanctions they are useless. North Korea is developing its own missile technology, hence their own missile tests. Therefore imposing sanctions prohibiting UN member states from selling them missile technology and equipment is toothless.

These sanctions are nothing more than rhetoric aimed at North Korea. They may listen, they may not. The major point being they dont have to if they dont want to - basically cite the US precedent.
