I think a little perspective is in order here. North Korea is not alone in sidelining the UN. Do you forget already that the United States called the
UN "irrelevant" when it denied the US request for force to be used against Iraq in 2003?
If the US considers, and states, that the UN is irrelevent why would any nation take it seriously any more? North Korea knows that the US only feigns
respect for the rule of the UN when it fits their interests. North Korea can reject these UN demands under that auspices and rationale.
Also if you look at the content of these sanctions they are useless. North Korea is developing its own missile technology, hence their own missile
tests. Therefore imposing sanctions prohibiting UN member states from selling them missile technology and equipment is toothless.
These sanctions are nothing more than rhetoric aimed at North Korea. They may listen, they may not. The major point being they dont have to if they
dont want to - basically cite the US precedent.
