Right, R - about where the money goes (and therefore the treatment). And let's look at the lack of ethics in research.

Where are the medical researchers who KNOW SmithKline Beecham suppressed their research findings on Paxil when they submitted it for approval to the FDA? Why haven't these doctors spoken up? They know the company they work for covered up the high percentage of research patients who either went homicidal or suicidal once they were placed on this drug?

The lack of speaking out of these doctors is not only unforgivable, but deserves legal prosecution.

So the whole system is dirty...ON PAR (I'll continue to place that in my posts...I know there are good-hearted, well-intentioned doctors and researchers out there. I have one of them as a family physician now. BUT ON PAR, the system is dirty. ON PAR, doctors, researchers and pharmaceutical companies are in it for the money, and we're cattle moving through the chute.)

It really begs the question as to what exactly is taught at medical school.

How frustrated can you get when you are forced to start with a primary care physician before seeing a specialist and they don't even have a clue what to look for to determine where to start, while at the same time are totally pissed off if you do.

I have had my GP stop/refuse to givie me a prescription for a medication i needed. All the good work went down the drain not to mention the money i had spent. Well not all specialists can get off that easily.I went to see a specialist who ended up precribing me anti-anxiety medication(which wasnt what i was there for) and not knowing exactly what it is i took it.I start to have memory problems and only then an internet search revealed its full effects.

Another cover up worth noting is the phenylpropanolamine incident. And the resulting situation of yale scientists having there work discredited.

Oh! Look here! In Britain Smith Kline is facing CRIMINAL charges over the suppression of the suicide risks associated wtih Paxil!

But in America - home of the free and land of the medicated - we and our children are still having this poison poked down our throats....accept for those who know better that is!

Tell me about it, I can not believe that is still around alone with other happy pills to make you feel better . . . occurs after you die from it . . .

I was prescribe paxil because I had stomach problems and the doctor said that it was stress . . .

I never took it . . . my stomach problems were not stress it was a real issue . . .

We do live in a nation that love to push medications and careless about the results when it laws to protect the manufactures and doctors against frivolous law sues.

This is a social issue.

Well, for the sake of the question (okay not really - I have other reasons) I have just pre-qualified myself for an investigational research study. I might get some first hand experience to settle this once and for all. Or I may get myself killed-

But I might actually get in a position to get to the bottom of this in the end.

I think I'll elablorate on my decision to consider participation in an actual research study.

It partly stems from my sentiments posted on FredT's post here:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

When you aren't getting help, you consider drastic alternatives (though I should point out the research project I am being considered for is not Lyme related).

I should say that what little I know about the project is that it is just going to be another study to treat symptoms, not find reasons or a cure, (bgg disappointment, but to be expected) but I would expect that in the process I will get full medical evaluations and testing during the study, which is more than I have access to now and perhaps I will get some further insight into my condition along the way while perhaps helping to find a better painkiller with less side afects for my fellow suffers.
No guarantees on that I realize, it could be worse than anything out there in terms of side affects, but what have I got to lose?

Of course if they take me I am very good at chit chat and should gleen some good answers regarding the true motives of researchers during the study.

Relentless, any updates on your condition and the study that was performed? May medical doctors and medical researchers work together in a fully integrated way. God Bless You.

Well, the day before my initial evaluation for the study, an hour after they confirmed the appointment, they called to say the Dr. had been called out of state and rescheduled me. Then the day before the next appointment no one called to confirm. Since it is an hours drive and was a 7AM appointment I started calling at 3PM and no one returned my calls. After they were closed I left a message on the after hours hotline telling them that if someone didn't confirm I wasn't driving out there.

Long story short, a series of phone calls put me on with the study coordinator who said she didn't recall my name, but if I came they would accomodate me. I had an opportunity to question what the drug was intended to target. It turns out it was another attempt to use anti-depressants for the treatment of pain, but this time to use it in it's "pure" form. What a disappointment!

The particular drug in question messes with all your brain chemicals and there are reports of people who take this and NEVER are able to get off it again. It messes with them to the point it's permanant. I don't believe in messing with serotonin and the other two chemicals it affects when you aren't depressed to begin with.

Needless to say I passed. I am still on the list for other studies, but so far nothing really new in the field has come up. From what I've been offerred so far, the bottom line seems to be, the researchers are only doing what the drug companies request them to do. At this point I don't see that they are actually researching at all, just doing studies based on theories of drug companies. Shame really.
Don't know why I would have expected more.
