Area 30 is located in the rugged terrain south of Buckboard Mesa on the western edge of the Nevada Test Site, almost as far as you can get from Area 51 and still be on the NTS.

It is located within what is known as the Reserved Zone and occupies 58 square miles. In the past, Area 30 has had limited use in support of the nation’s nuclear testing programs, but in the spring of 1968 it was the site of Project Buggy, the first nuclear row-charge experiment in the Plowshare Program.
