At least three explosions have taken place in the Indian financial capital, Mumbai (Bombay), police say.
It is not yet clear what caused the blasts and police are not confirming the location of the explosions, which occurred during evening rush hour.

Some reports say at least one of the blasts took place near a train station. Unconfirmed reports speak of a number of casualties.

A correspondent for CNN's sister network, CNN-IBN, reported seeing 15 bodies at the Matunga train station.

Video from the scene showed people covered in blood receiving treatment. Other commuters were shown carrying victims and some people were lying motionless near train tracks.

The city's commuter rail network is among the most crowded in the world.

Its being reported on Fox also, very low number of deaths so far, a little more than a dozen.

Fox anchors are saying it has all the marks of being an al-qaida attack, which does make a certain amount of sense, it was a complex mutliple detonation attack, like the embassies and 911, on a transportation system, just like in london, madrid, and the stopped plot on the NYC tunnels.

Its difficult to say though because India has a long history of being attacked by terrorist organizations, both in the form of muslim sucide bombers from the north and tamil suicide bombers from the south.

edit:
I see that the news is now reporting the death toll at up to 80. I have the feeling that its going to continue to climb as they go through the process. THis is unfortunate, at first, with a relatively small number of deaths, there was at least some form of (albeit bizzare) good news.

India's missile test and satellite launch
go down in flames !

Key Indian satellite launch fails

India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle spins out of control after exploding

The explosion showered debris over the Bay of Bengal

The launch of India's heaviest communications satellite has failed after the rocket carrying it veered off course and exploded.

The Insat-4C satellite weighed more than 2,000kg and was expected to significantly enhance India's telephone and business communications.

It came a day after a test-fire of India's longest-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile ended in failure.

The Agni-III surface-to-surface missile crashed into the Bay of Bengal.

Anyone paying attention to the date: 7-11-06.
Why is eleven & seven so important to these elite bastards who are fabricating terrorist attacks?

I have no idea how relaible this soite is, but definitely doesn't suggest any Al Qaeda link

www.stratfor.com...

The perpetrators of this attack are likely members of Islamist militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Indian security forces have uncovered a number of LeT cells in and around New Delhi and Mumbai in recent weeks. The cells had plans for coordinated attacks against infrastructural targets, including ports and rail lines. Prior to the blast, a number of bomb threats were made against major Indian rail lines. These actions in the lead-up to the Mumbai attack are consistent with the militant tactic of "pinging the system" to detect response times and give victims "threat fatigue."

India was due for a militant attack by LeT in a major urban area. Though Indian security forces have been particularly effective in uncovering a number of LeT cells throughout the country, they failed to completely disrupt LeT's plans.

I see no reason to link these bombs with Al Qaeda - given that AQ has no obvious reason to attack Mumbai and would surely want to orchestrate a much bigger 'spectacular' if it did - not something which will barely get a mention on western media outlets.

people just keep in mind that India has seen decades of domestic terrorism before we ever even knew Al-Qaeda existed. Just because this may have been done by Muslim extremists (could be Hindu extremists too but we don't know) doesn't make it an Al-Qaeda attack.

You do realize that this attack was probably carried out by one of the many islamist terror groups inside of india, no? I mean, its not like there is a shortage of them.

This is a good point, and India certainly has a long enough history of problems with regional islamic terrorism that there isn't much of a need to think that this was al-qaida. But, again, Al-qaida does seem to be interested in financial centers, such as the WTC, and transportation centers, such as in london, madrid, and the recent NYC tunnels attack that was prevented. Not enough to conclude that it was al-Qaida or even a part of their franchise that did this though.

Heck, it might've even been the Tamil Tigers.

This is terrible! I've seen a few articles on it, yet conflicting reports on the casualties. Last I heard there was 7 explosions. It's an interesting date today 7/11

Over 100 people were killed in a series of seven blasts in suburban trains and platforms in Mumbai on Tuesday evening, Police Commissioner AN Roy said.

However, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh put the number of dead at 50, besides scores injured.

Sorry, just had to put that in.

My prayers are with those injured, dead and their family members that are victims of this horrible attack.

About 6.1 million people everyday use Mumbai's [Bombay] suburban train system, an extension of the first railway to be built by the British in the Indian subcontinent 153 years ago. Mumbai is home to India's biggest equity and money markets, the central bank, companies such as Reliance Industries Ltd. and the country's busiest port.

As an aside, I find it notable that the american news, at least fox, seems to be having great trouble adjusting to the fact that its called Mumbai, not Bombay, they keep mentioning this. Its been called Mumbai officially for a long time. The old saying is that americans learn geography through war, looks like it still hold true.

Also being reported is that the government over there knew that there was going to be an attack, but not where or when. The government has already aparently arrested people in Lashkar-e-Taiba, fox is reporting.
