please help me help theese people

a little old lady in boston,
hired a PROFESSIONAL contractor to
replace her roof.

during the course of the work the contractors
discovered a lot of old money worth $100,000.00

the reason they know its worth so much is.........
they kept it secret and had it appraised and then tried
to tell everyone they "found it in their yard"

now tell me, any of you PROFESSIONALS OUT THERE,,,
WHO should keep the money????

i was a professional floor installer for many years,,
found many, many LOST ITEMS behind cabinets, under furniture,..etc....
and UNLESS it was CLEARLY TRASH,, all items were given directly to owner,
or placed on their desk so they saw it in the morning.......

if you say finders keepers then.........,,,

lets say YOU hire a contractor do do any kind of work in your home/office
lets say a guy you hired to open your locked "safe", finds some STUFF,
is it yours or his?

how about a cleaning person, cleaning your BUSINESS, do they KEEP WHAT THEY FIND? while cleaning?

he found it on YOUR property, HIRED by YOU, NOT to go looking for stuff!!!,,
but to do a very VERY SPECIFIC JOB!!!

she did NOT hire TREASURE HUNTERS to split findings with!!!
she hired PROFESSIONAL ROOFERS to install a ROOF..

they found COFFEE CANS, they broke PROFESSIONAL RULES and opened them up
and then KEPT what they WERENT SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKING FOR!!

and now,,,, the roofers are FIGHTING this old lady, in court, to keep HER FAMILIES money,,

if (IF), the roofers win, then,, anywhere i am invited to , i could "find" anything
i want and legally keep it,,, right??!?

that means,, next time i come to your house, guess what,,
i just FOUND $2000.00 in your underwear drawer.....and i get to keep it,, awesome!!!

please help me , help this family,,
the contractor,(since they took the money OFF THE PROPERTY, should be charged,
with what,,,, GRAND theft???)...
they werent gonna tell the family,,, the news found out after they got it appraised

is this what PROFESSIONALS do?????

i wrote the gov., lt.gov, and other state officials in mass. to help this lady
i would like to see her get HER PROPERTY BACK........

just a little help,, like you would want to be helped in this situation

if they let theese roofers keep what they found on SOMEONE ELSES' property
then EVERY POSSESION YOU OWN will be fair game,
#2 robbery will be basically LEGAL
#3 but the crime rate would be down,,, cause its legal

but seriously,, i dont know this woman im in a totally different state
but if the roofers win, then wait till it hapens again, and again and again
and then happens to you,, then it will be too late.. because of the previous
courts ruling,, YOUR CASE will be thrown out!

they should have given it to the old girl....she would have probably given them some anyways?

I can't figure out from the article why it wasn't returned to the old woman. THe roofers said that they found it buried somewhere else, but that story, the article says 'collapsed'.

How?

And if it did, indeed, why is the town holding on to it? It states that the charges were dropped against the roofers. If there are no charges, why is the money being witheld from them?

That's a sad situation. Has the old lady gotten a lawyer?

Nygdan is right, how did the story collapse? If there's been no charges for theft, then the money shouldn't be in government hands still.

Does the old lady have any form of proof? Anything that even remotely resembles proof?

Better call herself a decent lawyer imho.

My dads a carpentar, and for years worked in many different peoples homes, he would find all sorts of stuff, but always let the people know of what was found.....many times the people were gratefull and gained his trust.
Being a migrant, he came to Australia for a better life in making money, always worked hard and needed work to live, what better way to get known, ''word of mouth'' ........honesty is the best policy.

Interesting story. I'm not sure what justification there could possibly be for not giving the lady the money back. The Boston Channel link says the appraised value is $700k.

The city of Methuen is holding the money. The one-time defendants could lay claim to it -- after all, they found it.

Stinks. Looks like the city's "holding it" in the event of a legal claim. They probably don't want to be sued for releasing it. By the time the lawyers get done, there'll probably be a good $300-$400 there.
