ummmm

Yeah, whatever dude.

VERY condescending when used as a reply to another's post...
I really hate seeing one poster doing that to another.

someone asks:

"What do the news channels say about this story?"

Someone replies:

"UMMMMMMM, try turning on your TV..."

Maybe it's just my own personal Pet peeve..
But why TYPE it into your post? UMMMMM...
I know people who speak in a halting manner, that start out a lot of their sentences with it WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY TALKING..

But why include it, when typing...?

ummmm, okay, I'm done..

SteveR -

Uncalled for. Very uncalled for. I realize that you had a hard day on one particular thread, but geez.:shk:

Spacedoubt -

I have done that in a couple posts before. I thought it added some character to my post instead of a straight-line reply. It was just my way of changing things up a bit.

Cheers,

JDub

SD is pointing out that is can be used sarcastically, making the other poster feel stupid or ridiculed. Nevertheless, We are probably both riled up

Thats true, it can add character.
But, if used in just the right (or wrong) way, it's very dismissive.
You can usually tell the difference.

It's my peeve!

Trolling has nothing to do with it.

There, there you go...two fine examples..mine, and the one just previous to mine.

Maybe it's a meditative Mantra...ummmmmmmmmm...ohmmmmmm..ummmmm..
nah, doesn't work..

the ummmmm sounds like someone who is being undecided or unconviced, I use hmmmmm to indicate that i am thinking about the subject (maybe as a possiblily), ohmmmmmm is proabably used when someone is meditating and thinking about it.....whahahaaaha
sure adds character to the message...
