Just before the 2004 election Osama Bin Laden released a tape denouncing George Bush and his policies. Now according to Ron Susskind's book "The One Precent Solution", that despite Bush supporters claims at the time that it was an endorsement of John Kerry, the CIA thought the exact opposite.

On Oct. 29, 2004, just four days before the U.S. presidential election, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin-Laden released a videotape denouncing George W. Bush. Some Bush supporters quickly spun the diatribe as "Osama's endorsement of John Kerry." But behind the walls of the CIA, analysts had concluded the opposite: that bin-Laden was trying to help Bush gain a second term.

This stunning CIA disclosure is tucked away in a brief passage near the end of Ron Suskind's The One Percent Doctrine, which draws heavily from CIA insiders. Suskind wrote that the CIA analysts based their troubling assessment on classified information, but the analysts still puzzled over exactly why bin-Laden wanted Bush to stay in office.

According to Suskind's book, CIA analysts had spent years "parsing each expressed word of the al-Qaeda leader and his deputy, [Ayman] Zawahiri. What they'd learned over nearly a decade is that bin-Laden speaks only for strategic reasons.

Well this is a fine kettle of fish. There have been those of us who have said for years that George Bush walked right into the trap set for him on 9/11. It was an old strategy of the Russian anarchists to create a politicial situition so extreme by their acts of terrorism that in an attempt to crack down, the government becomes so repressive that it also becomes their enemies own best recruiter. In modern terms, the war on terror becomes the recuiter for future terrorists.
So did Bin Laden endorse Bush as this article claims or was it an endorsement of John Kerry? Considering the topsy turvy world of Rovian politics, it was certianly spun that way. Then again wonder if Rove pulled an October Surprise and had Bin Laden paid in some way (like letting him get away again) for the tape, or did they do it themselves?

Its all speculation really. Bin Laden could really have been condeming bush for being a jerk, or he could've been trying to make peopel vote for him.

Up until a few days ago, it'd've been difficult to see how bin ladin would've benefited from a bush win, but, its under Bush that the CIA has dismantled its 'Bin Laden Hunting Unit". So, looks like the Bush Win really did benefit him.

This is true but in all reality only an idiot or a right-wing hack would have thought (or proposed) that the American people would listen to Bin Laden denounce Bush and as a result vote for Kerry. AND, if Bin Laden actually thought that,
he's not the threat we've been told he is but an idiot.
