It's interesting to see the different skew on events as they are reported to the people of DPRK(Democratic People's Republic of Korea). Makes you cease wondering why they are so bitter towards the USA. The Korean war, started over 56 years ago is still a terrific thorn in their sides. Just take a look at how they view recent events and sentiments towards Americans.

A massively repressive regime like NK's needs an enemy to unite it's populace against.
You can't get an entire society to support such a regime without convincing them that there is an external threat in which they are involved in a life or death struggle with.

For North Korea, the US serves such a purpose.

DPRK Demands Japan and U.S. Return Looted Cultural Relics
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) --The Japanese reactionaries and the U.S. imperialists should apologize for their aggression and plunder in Korea and unconditionally return all the cultural relics they looted from it. A spokesman for the Bureau for Direction of Cultural Preservation of the DPRK demanded this in a statement issued Tuesday 90 years since the Japanese promulgation of "Regulations on preserving historic spots and relics" aimed to destroy and plunder cultural relics in Korea. After the promulgation of the above-said regulations on July 4, 1916 the Japanese imperialists set up such organizations as "Committee for surveying historic spots in Korea", "Museum of 'Government-General' in Korea" and "Society for Preserving Historic Spots" that specialized in plunder and indiscriminately destroyed or plundered valuable cultural treasures of Korea, the statement noted, and continued:
The Japanese imperialists' plunder and vandalism of cultural relics in Korea were intolerable barbarism and crimes against humanity as they were aimed to stamp out the Koreans' long history and their national identity and destroy human civilization.
The Japanese reactionaries have not yet admitted the hideous and shameless cultural plunder and vandalism but worked hard to justify them although 60 years have passed since the defeat of Japan. They have gone the lengths of working with blood-shot eyes to stage a comeback to Korea, inciting militarism, as evidenced by their desperate efforts to grab Tok Islet, part of the inviolable territory of Korea.
Such tragedy as vandalism of historic spots and looting of artifacts of Koreans by the U.S. imperialists is still going on in south Korea.
The Japanese and U.S. imperialists are looters and destroyers of the historic and cultural relics created by the Koreans and their sworn enemies as they inflicted unbearable misfortune and pain upon them.
All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should wage a vigorous struggle to get those cultural relics retrieved in the spirit of "By our nation itself."

Dude, that has to be the funniest ever. Those guys really hate Japan. It's funny.

North Korean government believes that Korea is a single country, or rather should be a single country. They feel that US intervention in the 50's prevented them from uniting Korea under communism. They also believe that had they done so in the 50's, communisy Korea would be far richer and prosperous today that North Korea is by itself. US sees the war in Korea as prevention of spread of evil men wearing red, and defense of South Korea.

If you are a little more open towards other's opinions, you may see some sense in both of these opinions. For example, how would US feel in the 1700-1800's if suddenly some powerful European nation came in to prevent it from spreading Westward on the North American Continent, then destroyed most of its military, then accussed US of terrorizing the world. But luckily for George Bush, America did spread Westward unopposed, killing Indians, Mexicans, and whoever else got in their way.

That article probably has some truth to it, about the plundering I mean.

The Japanese did occupy Korea Pre-WW2 to 1945 don't forget.

The occupation was brutal, and probably just as the Nazis plundered Europe of it's treasures, perhaps Japan did the same with Korea, and the other parts of Asia.

yeah i'm sure there is some truth in it. All propaganda does have truth in it. It's just a distorted view of the truth. I'll point out some of the funny bits...

The Japanese imperialists' plunder and vandalism of cultural relics in Korea were intolerable barbarism and crimes against humanity as they were aimed to stamp out the Koreans' long history and their national identity and destroy human civilization

...that's funny man...

They have gone the lengths of working with blood-shot eyes to stage a comeback to Korea

This is priceless material...

Why can't our news be like this? It should be presented in the city streets on huge floating screens by some charismatic leader followed by some sort of great national slogan ie. War is Peace, Freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength

haha...great stuff.

Well, in reference to to stamping out the Korean's long history, the Japanese did indeed attempt to ban Korean writing, language and culture in favour of the Japanese writing, language and culture, to obliterate any national identity Korea had to conform to a Japanese identity as part of the Japanese empire, so I could say they are quite right in their accusations here.

blood-shot eyes, a negative caricature there, talk of Japan staging a comeback to Korea probably from Japan's relationship to the US 'the other old enemy', whipping up old wounds to solidify the nation.

I have dealt with the Korean view of Japan, so I will say concerning the US , that's a underlying and boiling resentment North Korea has that the US kept the South of Korea from being 'liberated'.

North Korea sees Korea divided, first it saw Japan occupy Korea, now it is divided, as it sees it, by the US, so sees the US the same as Japan.

The fact that North Korea still has this resentment towards Japan is concerning, to the US, more unsurprising as soundbytes go back and forth.

Probably some South Koreans feel the same resentment concerning Japan, certainly there are tensions between South Korea and Japan as well.

North Korea are trying to unite Korea on this stand.
