Fears.
Everyone has at least one.
(some have many more than one)

This goes out to everyone on ATS, mods and administrators also (feel free to chime in).

I want to hear from all of you.

What are you affraid of?

[note: if it is a legitimate fear that's fine, however, try not to be too intentionally silly; of course, a joke or two in good taste is fine...but try to keep it legit]

I have two
1) I don't like clowns (No I mean it, I really don't!)
2) My greatest fear is that I can't control the dangers in the world for my children.

I have an irrational fear of snakes, but I can get it under control sufficiently even to the point of handling the vile creatures.

But what I'm really afraid of, and I'll bet this proves to be pretty common, is...

CLOWNS!

To me, clowns aren't funny -- in fact, they're pretty damn scary. I've wondered where this comes from, and believe it goes back to when I was a kid and went to the circus and a clown killed my dad.

Fears or phobia's?

My fear is of not being able to care for my self. I cannot bear the thought that someone will have to wipe my backside for the rest of my life, and care for me, because i am too disabled, or suffering from some kind of disease. Euthanasia comes to mind with this thought.

My phobia is birds. I am scared to death of them. If one comes within five feet of me, i start to panic. Put me, and bird in a cage in a house, then its me to the asylum big time. Not sure why i am scared, or what it is about them that scares me.

I fear divulging my innermost fears over a public forum, in case they're catalogued in a database somewhere and later used against me, like that face-cage of rats in 1984.

Its funny really phobia's, good thread i say, because when you really think deep as to why it seems so irrational, take a friend of a friend, who's scared of cotton wool!, totally freaks out if it touches him, strange.

Myself i would have to say i'm a big girls blouse if i see a spider, not the little ones, the big ones, in fact most bugs.

Now they say there usually is a repressed reason sometimes behind these phobia's.
So maybe as a baby i had a spider crawl over my face EEErr the thought of that is revolting.

Fascism!

Being sent to a concentration camp because of my opposition to a political party and their agendas.

Be afraid, be very afraid!

My biggest fear is gun waving speed freaks.

There was a shooting at a 7eleven an hour after my son and I went there to buy snacks last Saturday night. (3 wounded @ Spadina and College in Toronto)

It's not a fear I have only for myself, but for my family as well. Even rural Ontario is not immune to this. Lions Head, Ontario, a tiny community just north of where I live, just had a huge meth lab bust that netted the cops a 35 kilo stash of finished product.

You cannot trust speed freaks...in 1969, a man I thought I knew well shot and killed his best friend at point-blank range as a joke while he was high.

great, now I have another fear.

I have one thing that scares me - being stuck out at sea, floating with no chance of rescue and knowing that there is but one way out - drowning. This is somewhat comical for me as I am a good swimmer (high school swim team etc), almost every vacation I take involves being near the beach and I like to snorkle, dive (did it once and would do it again if not for the kids) and fish. I spend weekends in the summer out on the boat fishing as well. I faced up to the drowning aspect of the fear a few years back when I almost drowned rescuing my wife from death in the water. Long story but the basics are she got sucked into the rip in Cabo and smashed into the rocks (broken nose). I didn't even hesitate to go in after her and wound up getting tossed into the rocks too. Saved both our butts with no help from the hotel staff that seemed to enjoy the spectator side of the moment.

So, like I said, the idea that I am stuck out at sea, floating with no rescue in sight, scares the crap out of me. That reminds me, I need to book the overnight fishing trip for the canyons again. 100 miles offshore, no land in sight.

tight spaces freak me out as well. total claustrophobic.
the stuff on gefilte fish is up there too. For the non-jews out there, this is a jelly like goo that the gefilte fish sits in. It's frightening in it's consistency and appearance. I dread the holidays as a result. Well that and the whole inlaws thing.

"I fear divulging my innermost fears over a public forum, in case they're catalogued in a database somewhere and later used against me, like that face-cage of rats in 1984."

That's actually really well said.
But don't worry about me, I'm totally harmless

And just for the record, all of you people can either use a fear or a phobia, either/or, just as long as we all participate.

When I was a kid, I was definitely affraid of clowns as well.
In fact, my family went to the Ground Round and one of the clowns came up to us and asked me if I wanted to have my face painted (I was 4 or 5 at the time) and I started screaming and crying so much that the manager asked us (politely) to leave the restaurant and not to come back. Now that's freakin' funny!
I have, since then, gotten over that, but I still don't trust clowns.

Water, now that's a big deal.
I mean, I shower and drink water, but that's not what I mean.
Much like one of the earlier posts, the idea of being surrounded by water, that freaks me out BIGTIME!
I don't really go swimming, although again, much like the earlier poster, I am an excellent swimmer.
And I hate boats!

Okay, so now I've opened up myself to all of you to be a good sport and participate in the thread.
Now it's up to the rest of you...

ITEOTWAWKI and I feel fine. No major phobias to report.

I have found that the things that I have been afraid of
never seem to materialize. So I have calmed down a lot
over the past few years.

I was afraid John Kerry would be elected and that he'd
turn this country into a socialist nightmare. Thank God
he didn't get into the Oval Office.

At different times I have been afraid of prophecies regarding
comet impacts, earthquakes, etc. None of them materialized.

I have some healthy fears -
- as was mentioned ... fear of others committing road rage
- fear of my child being sick or injured in some way
- fear of loss of job for my husband
- fear of tornadoes during very bad weather

that kind of thing - healthy and expected - but not overwhelming.

So I'm just at ITEOTWAWKI ... and I really do feel fine.

I'm personally terrified by bad spelling. People adding letters and apostrophes where none belong. Always confusing "it's" with "its," and "your" with "you're." I scares me to think that people spend many years in school, and apparently all they do there is snooze and smoke dope. Well, I guess now they "text" each other. And we know that isn't going to improve anyone's spelling anytime soon. "Hw R U 2day?"

I have a couple fears

1.)I am afraid of tyranny...living in a repressive society scares the living crappola out of me.

2.) and this one is silly.
But I am afraid of insects in my home...not out in nature they dont really bother me there that much(although Id still freak out if they are crawling on me)
If I see one in my home I just lose it. My wife laughs at me to no end whenever that happens.
