Recently came across this essay and I found it immensely interesting so I wanted to share it.
In no small amount of detail, the author explains how Zarkawi, if he ever existed at all, was created as a propaganda device, much like Emmanuel
Goldstein of 1984, to put a "face" on terrorism. Furthermore the author questions how a nobody terrorist who'd been arrested and wounded managed to
orchestrate subversive actions across the globe with such finesse that, though nobody had ever heard of him before, the US government was unable to
locate and capture him.
