"From the Dust Returned"

Hello to all -

Fair warning - unless you're a word geek like me you'll probably find my endless quoting and book recommendations tiresome after not very long. I apologize for that in advance; it's just that I find words and books so crucial to life that I feel compelled to share their messages with others. Sometimes I get lucky and come across a few that know exactly how I feel.

I've also discovered that the answer to the following question speaks volumes about a person. My answer to this question : The Grapes of Wrath.

Here's the question : In Farenheit 451, by R Bradbury, the protagonist meets a number of fugitives from the law who have taken it upon themselves to memorize works of literature. If all books were to be someday banned by the government and burned, what book, if any, would YOU save from oblivion by committing it to memory?

I think this question is, unfortunately, more relevant today than Ray ever imagined it would be...

I love F451, what irony it would be if it had to be committed to memory someday to preserve it...

But I think its value is somewhat narrow, in terms of being applicable to wildly different societies and social paradigms.

Maybe the Tao Te Ching would be a better bet - that's a dense little piece of work, very insightful if you can put the necessary effort into understanding the paradoxes presented.

Well, many come to mind. It would be a hard choice to make and hopefully we'll never see that day.
