Words of advice for wild cat.

I am a catholic seminarian I have been on ATS for almost 2 years .

DO NOT talk about God, Do not talk about relgion, and Do not bring up faith here.

You will accomplish nothing. There are local groups in your christain area for you to discuss God and Christ. I used to spend alot of my time on ATS clarifiying Catholic Theology but its a neverendign deal and people already have their minds set.

Take the faith to friends. and friends in the faith.

well, IT seems I'm the only help you got. I believe you, and not only that, I can probably give you some insight as to "why".

If you will notice, when Jesus prayed to God for something, it was for something He already knew was going to happen anyway. The only time that this is not true is when Jesus left the campsite the days before He was taken into custody and eventually did His walk of shame. He prayed to His Father that if there were any other way that it could be, He would rather it, but that He understood the Will of God. He knew what was going to happen before it happened. Jesus, as a human, *as any of us would do* simply asked if there might be an alternative...

Any other time Jesus prayed, it was simply talking to God. Too many times people misconstrue the meaning of prayer to mean a "wish" and in fact, even the Romans misconstrued this as their word for to pray and to wish is the same "Orare". But, prayer with God the Father is simply a conversation. If you are to treat it as such, instead of trying to wish things away or wish things into existence, then it will happen because that would glorify God.
Do not confuse that with faith, though... Faith is what allowed Jesus and His disciples healing powers. Faith doesn't require "prayer" for Jesus was not necessarily having a direct conversation with God *that the Bible speaks of* when He was breaking the fish and the bread. IT was simply an act of faith.

Therefore, what you are experiencing is faith. Since you have a conversation with God, you do not take for granted that it won't happen.. because your faith is strong, it happens. Jesus never said "with faith like that of a mustard seed, you could move a mountain" and then add in "if you believe in my Father". He simply said...with faith.

So there you have it. You have faith brother. keep it up. Oh.. and.. continue talking about God, faith, religion, whatever you want to call it. Don't let someone bring you down just because people brought him/her down. That is just an example of THEIR lack of faith.

But, alas... haven't I replied, and offered you my opinion? Have I not been positive and reinforcing?
But, I would like to ask for you... to pray for me, as I'm going through a difficult time right now. Pray what you will, the Lord knows what I'm going through. I can honestly say I believe you have more faith than me, although I'm not proud of that, I am humbled, and appreciate it.

Thank you for you positive help. Well I dont go to church alot, Im usually busy on Sundays and I do pray in a way that isnt help just for me and in a way where I really mean it. I guess alot of other people might pray but dont really need it. I see myself as a low sinner b/c one time I went to church and the priest said "if we do less and less bad things we will realize that they are bad." This is true b/c I see people so bad things all the time but do they feel bad about it, NO. People steal alot but not always from stores. They dont realize that someone is either going to be really pissed off, or very depressed b/c their favorite $350 iPod has been stolen. I HAVE SEEN IT MANY TIMES. I feel sorry for the person who lost it but they person why stole it doesnt feel any regret. How evil society is getting these days.

Praying is internal. Never look up to the heavens, but look into a mirror. You must be in tune with yourself to the point of almost living automated. Trust yourself....and of course your dreams will come true !

I am not into one specific religion but I believe in a higher one....but there is a christian verse that sings a beautiful note:

Mar 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Mar 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].

Thats a good one... Just remember that you are the soul controller and the power of God is in your head. You are a part of the higher being.

I am most curious as to why you just didn't get rid of that centipede by yourself.

Anyway, if God always answers your prayers, then please do pray for world peace and an end to world hunger. These would be appreciated by millions of people and you would be doing a tremendous favor to the entire world.

Great post. It's a rare topic but very interesting to me. I get bugs in my room all the time, I don't kill insects much, because I get hit with a guilt trip . Since my spiritual rebirth, I find it difficult to kill an insect. I feel all life has the right to live. So i scoop the bugs up and place it on my stoop if I have to.

But Wildcat...hear this...... " you must only pray for things that you can control".

Some people pray for others. People pray that their girlfriend or boyfriend get a good job for example. That is beyond their control. I think praying for others...is entirly illogical. People should pray on thieir own behalfs. Because people only have the power to control themselves. So pray that you get a job, so you make the right decisions , from critical ones, to small ones..that will eventually lead you to the job.

Don't pray for someone who has to take a big test the next day. The person who takes the test must do the praying. If you can't control it, don't pray .

Praying for a centipede to go away? Worry about what you cant control. Otherwise do not worry ! Never worry...it's completly ILLOGICAL to worry if you have the power to change or control the situation.

World peace? we could only control the peace in our homes. The peace within our community and the people we interact with. Praying for world peace is illogical unless you are the president of the US who has the power to control many. Individuals must pray that they make the right decisions to live in peace. Even if there is chaos around them.....people must pray so they are in tune with themselves and affect the stability of the people they interact with everyday.

SCP - I personally don’t believe in prayer, but I am curious about your post. Why do you believe that one should only pray for things on their own behalf? What makes that prayer more logical than a prayer for someone else?

Actually I tried with a towel b/c it was late and there were no other choices except this dagger that wasnt sharpened that I wanted it to keep clean. It crawled away.

Well theres other stuff I have prayed for that theres no way I can possibly control it. Also I never ever have any bugs in my room b/c I go though a great deal to keep them away. I see it as there is nothing to eat in the room so why bother, I dont have carpet so its easily to see and I move my funiture in my room alot and I dont find anything except big wads of dust. And another thing that I prayed for is signs, and I always get signs more often that other people that I heard of that get signs. I get signs of things that wont just happen on its own they come in a way where it has to be a sign. And all these things I do take as a sign and its funny b/c its always is situated with sin. Everytime Im about to do something bad and I mean EVERYTIME I get a sign. Its happened ever since I prayed for signs. I wonder if anyone else wants to get a sign evertime before they commit a wrong thing to keep them from not doing it.

I don't believe in prayer either . I meditate. Why do people mediate? to keep themselves balanced and in tune with themselves to the point where they would never betray themselves or god.

I believe we are god in the flesh. Some are cut off, and the ones who meditate are always in communication with god. The consicence . But like i say about people who pray and their habit of lookin up to the sky as if someone will hear them.....people should look in the mirror when they pray. You can only pray for yourself only ! Worry about what you can control or dont worry at all. Pray for you, to gain internal strength by keeping the spirit in you alive, not so some being up in the clouds can hear you.
