Where does the bright light come from in this picture?

I'm spending my time today, browsing through pics at

Nasa's Astronomy Pictures of the Day....

That is a picture of a galaxy. Galaxies are made op of Billions of stars. At the center of the galaxy, the stars are clustered more closely together. The light you are seeing is just light from the billions of stars in the galaxy.

It's a combination of light coming directly from the multitude of stars and the light produced by them reflecting off the solid stuff of the galaxy -- from space dust to planets. It's hard to imagine how freekin big these things really are. We really are tiny, insignificant specks of goo in the Universe.

Well, some of us, anyway.
