I've heard of "downbursts", but never this. Have any of you had dealings with this phenomenon?

Not uncommon during summers in mountainous areas. The morning readings from the mountaintop automatic weather sensors will be 20+ degrees warmer and 30% drier than the mid slope and valley bottoms. Later in the day the warm dry air will be on the surface.

Those are the days you are wearing a coat in the morning and t-shirts and shorts in the afternoon.
