liquid magnet - Experimentor Supplies

Just found this on the web.
Thought someone here may find it fun to play around with.
I just ordered the kit, would love to see how it dances when
I nail it inside a coil ! Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah I used to have some of that it is really messy and will stain your hands or anything else it comes in contact with. As I recall NASA developed the stuff in the 60's and the magnetic liquid is actually called a ferofluid. But yeah it will go all spiky and stuff when you hold a magnet underneath it etc. very fun to play with. People are even making artwork with the stuff these days.

Again though you have to watch out you don't spill though cause the oil used to make it is incredibly hard to wash.

you can make it but it sucks compare to the stuff you buy and does not hold it's shape I tried this as well.

Only if you do it the way they say on that website. Sorry i shoulda told you this.
If you buy an iron or steel pipe And a file the pipe shavings are all kind of reaaaaaaly small "slivers" of metal. You cant tell the difference by looking at them side by side. For some reason the shavings are MUCH MUCH better than the "sand iron" The stuff I make for my classes Works insanely well . the "playground\beach iron" is to impure i think....

Ill give it a shot and compare both.
Any specific oil i should use ? Or is just plain
old olive oil good enough.

You need the thickest oil you can find. If your air conditioner is on the oil may not be very liquidy.

I just change the oil in my car, but it smells like gas..lol
