If you have any questions that aren't answered in the handbook, feel free to post them in the Freshman's Forum, or U2U a mod or senior member.

I like the way you handled those tags. Excellent, I learned something new today
I assume this trick will work on all tags? I'm testing here if I can make it work:

[color=blue]Worlds First Commercial Wave Farm[/color]

Pelamis[/url]

will produce:

Worlds First Commercial Wave Farm

Pelamis

GreatTech, an easy way to do it is use the Quote button on the upper right hand corner or each post. (Your posts have the Edit button and a Quote button)

Then a posting screen opens with that person's quote already tagged for you. I usually edit it down from there (trim it), deleting text I don't want quoted, and perhaps highlighting a sentence or phrase that I'm pointing out specifically in the quote.

If you're quoting an offsite source, then you tag it yourself while editing. Not sure on the ATS official policy, but correct nettiquette is to attribute the source with a linky to the url where your reader can find it if they wish to read the whole thing.

Now this thing has me baffled:

I hate reading code but I'm looking at it after using the Quote button. Danged if I can figure out how you guys did that. My code typing is mostly limited to b, i, url, img, color, quote and a few everyday smilies. Is it something to do with the [ code] tags?

Nope, not the code tag. I used the "code tag" to get a red frame around it to make it easier to see. The trick is to add some stuff to the tags to make the tags not work (jamming). To be able to show how the tags look like without actually making them produce the result, except the second version which does not contain the "jammer"-tags.

That was a neat bb code tip!

Who would've thought?

Now I know how to show an example a better way. I used to take a screen capture of the bb code.

Hello!

I did as instructed on my last post, but it didn't come up with a box around it. Any ideas as to why?

Because you placed a backslash in the first (opening) quote tag as well as the last (closing). You should only put a slash in the closing quote tag.

Do this:

[quote]quote text here[/quote]

Don't do this:

[/quote]quote text here[/quote]

I'm using a FF browser here. After highlighting and right click, then using 'view selection source', I can see the jammer codes you're using.

...
I just can't get it to reproduce here by adding more jammer to show how you're doing it.

Oh well, back to the screen shots. I always did like doing things the hard way. But a few simple tricks are always fun to have up the sleeve.

Instead of using "angle brackets" for the empty tags. Use [ and ]

like this, without the spaces.

[quote [b ][/b ] ] insert quote here [/quote [b ][/b ] ]

No spaces though.

without the spaces, will produce this:

[quote] insert quote here [/quote]

presto!

And you can ALL thank JAK for this trick, or so a lil' bird told me.
