ATSNN is the place to discuss and debate top news stories.

It should not be the forum to politicize the news. That place is Politics@AboveTopSecret.

Such a loss. NPR is so balanced and never slanted or leaning toward the middle. I wonder what Putin will think.

I love the obvious hypocrisy...
To hate something requires you to care... and to care, you would think you would listen, and if you listened, then you would love and care all at once... If you dont listen, then you have no right to care either way...

NPR stands for the America I grew up in... before commercialism, before we were all aware our government was corrupt... before we knew there was anything but opportunity in diversity... Before we were told how to hate, by our news and media, before we were being indoctrinated into a holy war mentality...

Back when good music, and a radio host that sounded like frying bacon, were comforting...

PBS was all about turning your mind on (with Nova, or National Geographic), rather than off, with cartoons or atari... It was for the young to learn science, and nature. It was for the nerd in all of us...

I was only allowed to watch PBS on saturday, and sunday, and that was alright by me, while my friends learned all about violent sports, and rotted their brains on cartoons (which they had already seen 10 times) I learned about the cosmos, and the habitat of the pygmy marmont, and ancient egypt...

I did much better in school than they...
big suprise...
I also get first picked in trivial pursuit team choosing.

So when NPR or PBS are threatened, I feel like they are threatening the future of millions of kids that dont have discovery and history channel (like the native american reservations mentioned).
Since education is already terminally unequal, i liked thinking that at least there was ONE common denominator, that could do for kids today, what it did for me...

I also think that the reason this is such a passionate cause, is that NPR, and PBS have meant much to many, in much the same way.

Its easy to call something biased... listen and judge for yourself...
I listen to Rush limbaugh all the time, cant judge unless I listen...

NPR and PBC must retain public funding. The feds tax the crap out you all. It's your money. Write your Congressperson and protest. Tell them where they should put your money, especially if they vote in favor of this stupid legislation.

SKMDC1, said:

"If it were up to them FOX News would be all we were allowed to watch."
If that were so, the country would come to screetching halt because of the non-stop laughter.

I consider FOX NEWS to be great comic relief. It's good to to take 5 at FOX "NEWS". It's so hilarious when they say "fair and balanced". LOL. ROFLASTC! It's just a different version of the laugh track on sit coms. "Fair and balanced" is FOX's laugh track. "fair and balanced!" LOL. I love Sean Ins-Hannity. What a side splitter! A stand-up disguised (not very well) as a newscaster and pundit. Yet, I can only endure him a few minutes before the comedic quality fades and I sense that he's serious and that his audience laps it up like a baby on the nipple.

jsobecky, said:

“NPR could appeal to a wider audience if it were more balanced in it's reporting.”
Your example article is a great read. I was hearing the “fair and balanced” laugh track all the way through. Anyway, thanks for the joke. Stupid me. At first I thought your post was serious. LOL

I've been imploring my legislators to defund public television and radio for years. Let them peddle their bias in the free market like everyone else. Perhaps a new day is finally dawning in America! Hip, hip, hoorah!

A new day with dark and cloudy skies. Go watch FOX Grady and lighten up a little.

Could someone explain to me why PBS is considered liberal? I'll admit I haven't watched it for years, I watch little TV anyways but I recall great progamming, arts, education and Monty Python. OK. I checked the schedule for Buffalo's affiliate, nearest station, and I didn't see anything wrong there, with the exception of the Teletubbies.:

Yes defund those programs mentioned before and the following:

NOVA: Saving the National Treasures

Discover how specialists used cutting-edge preservation technology to protect America's original founding documents.

And all of these NOVA documentaries.

You want to cancel all of that, and what do you get from the mainstream cable networks???

American Idol
Desperate HouseWives
Fear Factor
Queer Eye
Dog the Bounty hunter
Last comic standing

And other nonsense...

Well its kinda like not being able to smell one's own bad breath or body odor. By the time that person can smell themselves it's too late......................everyone around them is already sick.............PBS is like a homeless person who's been on the street for 40 years.....they STINK all to heck with liberal bias.

from Jadette
And yet, there's no money for PBS.

Yes there is. There is $300 million for PBS.

the plan aims to completely cut funding. It begins with a $100 million cut, then, within 2 years, all of it. It's stupid, and aims to make the entire country stupid as well. At least those who can't afford cable.

I have yet to hear an example of this liberal bias BTW.

Where did you get that idea? From the base article:

The subcommittee's action, which came on a voice vote, doesn't necessarily put Big Bird on the Endangered Species List. House members could restore funding as the appropriations bill moves along or, more likely, when the House and Senate meet to reconcile budget legislation later this year. The Senate has traditionally been a stronger ally of public broadcasting than the House, whose former speaker, Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), waged a high-profile but ultimately unsuccessful campaign to "zero out" funding for the CPB a decade ago.

I'm assuming you didn't even check the link. Let's look at these liberal biassed shows:

Warner/Turner/Mgm Classic Film Collection: Tom Jones
2006 Drama Desk Awards
King of Stonehenge
Wai Lana Yoga
Sit and Be Fit
GED Connection: Organized Writing OMG, an educational program about writing Serious liberal bias.

Clifford The Big Red Dog: When I Grow Up/Not Now, I'm Busy Ah, now I see it, RED DOG
The Berenstain Bears: Showdown....Wood/Help Around Workshop
Etc, etc, etc.

Liberal? Sheesh.

Well there intrepid, where is the bible study program, or following the ten commandments? Where is any christian related program?

well, here's where I got that idea

In addition, the subcommittee acted to eliminate within two years all federal money for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting -- which passes federal funds to public broadcasters -- starting with a 25 percent reduction in CPB's budget for next year, from $400 million to $300 million.

Thermo: So, in order to get government funding a network should broadcast Christian programming? That seems to be very unamerican if you ask me.

Because Liberals are not christians and all conservatives are?

Accusing PBS of Liberal bias because it doesn’t have Christian programming seems a little silly doesn’t it?

PBS is about wholesome entertainment, arts, education, it's not a christian pulpit. BTW, check out Umbrax's post, I'd love to hear you answer that one.

I ask you, where are the Muslim programs on PBS? The Jewish? The Hindu, Budhist?

Here's your Christian programming BTW

May I remind you that not everyone is Chritian.
