Have we...procured antimatter?

Topic started on 8-6-2006 @ 09:19 PM by truttseeker

Around the boards I hear many references to antimatter and what it can do, whether it be for weapons or merely for destroying blackholes. But what I want to know is, has humankind gotten antimatter, and tested what id could do first hand. And if they had wouldnt it be too dangerous because when antimatter hits regualr matter...doesnt it turn into pure energy?

From what I understand, we have created small amounts of antimatter, atoms at a time.
I don't think too many organizations have the funds to create it in large ammounts though.

How much does it cost to produce antimatter?

If we count on the production CERN has done over the last 10 years (about 1 billionth of a gram), it has cost a few hundred millions euros.

eh, i think they are really overstating the cost of it.... seems to me antimatter is a sideproduct. If i remember correctly the main mission of CERN wasnt to create anti matter, yet it does. Has anything really been created to specifically make anti matter? Because i think if we concentrated we could make more
