As they watched, the air seemed to be sucked out of the room. Out of their lungs!
They tried to move but could not. They could only stare across the abyss in terror.
For some reason, John wondered what time it was. He couldn't move his head,
but his eyes found the battery-operated clock on the near wall. Out of the corner
of his eye he saw that it was six minutes to midnight. Six minutes! Six!
He remembered then that it was the sixth day. Of the sixth month. Of 2006.
6-6-6. 666!
Across the street the light surrounding the chair grew intensely brilliant.....
then faded to darkness.

John and Sara awoke this morning ( June 7th ) stiff and sore. Evidently, they had
fallen asleep together on the couch last night. Vague memories of a man in a
chair, with a shapeless face haunted them, but they remembered nothing clearly.
Over breakfast they watched the news on T.V., eating and discussing politics.
Strangely, (very strangely indeed), they both agreed that one candidate running
for office was head and shoulders above the others. And they couldn't remember
ever agreeing so easily on the merits of an up-and-coming politician! The guy
really was a charmer!
