I was looking at this, no it has nothing to do with their lifter technology,
It's basically a turbine engine with one slight difference,
what is normally used as the air bypass to regulate pressure, is used as a natural thrust outside the system, creating a vaccume at the taurus edges
of the device.
Not exactly enginuis, but still quite an effective modification of the usual turbine system.
I can only see it being used as a vertical thrust system, as at high speeds the vaccum system created above the device would neutralise, in turn
capping off its top end speed... in short, great thrust, horrible top end speed.
