I was out walking the dog this summer evening (6th), and at precisely 21:05 GMT I caught sight of an unidentifed object. I was unable to discern if it made any sound, because there was a jet flying overhead at the same time. However, this object was at a high altitude, and moving fast in a straight path, as if it was propelled. It looks like a deflated/crushed balloon, but it definitely was not drifting.

I had my camera at the time and quickly set it to 6MP, sports mode, and zoomed right in. I got the following three pictures.

It's nothing exciting, but I just have no idea what it is.

I agree, unless it was reported by the pilots.

It looks like a balloon to me. It's hard to tell from the pictures. It has a very deep red colour. And it looks like it's being manipulated by the wind in those photo's.

Yeah, balloon would be the best guess. It really caught my attention though because it moved fast and straight, very much like a plane, and it was solid. There was also no wind that day. Thanks for the replies.

There are always winds the higher you go.

Well, it looks like it's possibly a Swift or a Housemartin.
The third image seems to look that way.
I must admit that the first pic makes one sit up and take
notice!

The usual noise with these birds is a high screech as they
'zoom' about after insects.

Well, I can say it's definitely not a bird, it was much bigger than that.

That one makes me think it's a hawk or other raptor; they tuck their wings like that and shoot straight down when they spot prey, although you're right, the shape and length of the wings on the other two shots sure do look just like something in the Martin family.
