New measure would reward businesses who take chance on ex-convicts
Turner, a 32-year-old Chicagoan, has been trying, and failing, to get stable work for more than a year after serving prison time for burglary and other offenses. "My main focus is not to end up in prison for the rest of my life for a petty crime," he said.
The Safer Foundation in Chicago last year helped more than 8,000 people like Turner look for jobs, improve their literacy skills and get housing and drug treatment.
