This is a frequent occurance here in the UK. There were that many shells dropped in the world wars that did'nt explode, and people now and again come across them. We have a fair few washed ashore where i live, years ago a part of the forest where i live was littered with old ordanance and we used to take it home

Many a time the bomb disposal was called out to a kids house round here before they totaly cleared the place.

Same happened in Liverpool last month, where a floating WW2 bomb was found floating in the Mersey, and had to be dragged out to sea to be exploded. Caused chaos all day apparently.

Ive heard about this type of thing before in Germany but didnt realize it happened alot in the UK aswell. It scary that bombs dropped by the Nazis or Allies can still kill people all this time later.

In the US we only have to worry about a few "Broken Arrows" Theres still on in Georgia outside Atlanta still missing. Two were lost one recovered the other still missing in a swamp. The scary thing is the one they recover had 3 of the 4 fail safes fail.

the warhead is still missing from the broken arrow over goldsboro, nc as well.

A few years back, on the east coast, a former parcel of government land was being redeveloped into residential use when one of the backhoe opperators dug up a bunch of artilery shells. it seems the site was once a swamp where they dumped some old ammo back around WWI.

As they say happens quite often in the UK.

Pity the residents of NW France - there are still 2 (or more) WW1 mines loaded with 000's of tons of amatol which were prepared and not fired - one went off in the 50's - no-one knows where the other two are of how 'safe' they are
