Transistor. Of course you can't have it without several other things, but the combination of knowledge. No transistor, no ATS

We have done this thread before here.

But it is a good discussion.

I think that writing was the greatest invention.

Speech is very important but consider the difference in development between those cultures that had sophisticated language with no writing and those that had language and writing.

Next I would choose printing. This allowed knowledge to be easily and cheaply distributed to many.

It gets much more difficult after this point to choose the most important inventions in any kind of order. Easily the most important invention I have seen recently was the PC.

Most important future invention I think will be a gravity generator.

Well electricity isnt technology by definition,....

But the transistor rules the world today.
Integrated circuits can have millions of them inside.

The transistor in it's most basic form, is merely two diodes end to end, with a center tap.

i think it might have already been done, but who knows if this story or others like it are true....

but yes it still would be called "new"

A friend brought up a good one. The wheel.

I don't think there is 1 greatest invention. There have been way too many that have changed the world. Now if we broke it down to 10 or 100 year marks, we could get a nice list.
