23 - cultural meme or independent weirdness?

I just obtained Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. While reading about it, I discovered an interesting fact [and another 23]:

Watchmen is the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award, and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present."

Oh, and another:

On June 23, 2006 it was confirmed by Warner Bros. Studios that Zack Snyder would direct the big screen adaptation of Watchmen.

23 and 33 have been numbers that have fascinated me for some time. In my investigations into various Forteana, these numbers appear in some uncomfortable situations. They also seem to appear in conjunction in many cases.

If I may add these:

* Karl Wallenda, founder of the "Flying Wallendas" died while attempting to walk between the two towers of the ten-story Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He fell 123 feet to his death.
The crosswind he experienced was blowing at 23 miles per hour.
His balancing pole was 23 feet long.

* James Earl Ray escaped from the Missouri State Penitentiary on April 23 1967 and (supposedly) assassinated Martin Luther King 14 months later.

* In human biochemistry, there are 22 basic amino acids making up each of the myriads of proteins that build living tissues. In other words, each protein is in effect a 23rd substance.

* Edward R. Dewey descibed a 23-year cycle of recurrence of wars over the past 3,400 years of history. (Dewey's follower, the financial analyst Walter Bressert, reported a 33-1/2-month cycle in the prices of grains, meats and other commodities.)

* Sunspots wax and wane in 23 year cycles.

* On March 23, 1909, the fist of the wave of "Phantom Airships" was sighted in Peterborough, England. On December 23 of the same year "an enormous cigar-shaped craft that had lights, wings and a brilliant searchlight", appeared over Providence, Rhode Island.

* Founder of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith was born on December 23, 1805. His first contact with the Angel "Moroni" took place on the Autumn equinox, September 21, 1823.

* Serial Killer, John Wayne Gacy recited the 23rd Psalm aloud as he despatched his victims (33 in total).

* There are 231 Kabbalistic Gates.

* In the legend of Solomon's Temple, 231 is said to be the volume of the famous "stone rejected by the builder" of Masonry. (The Masonic Encyclopedia informs us that the Temple "retained it's original splendour for only thirty-three years.)

* In the lore of "Ley Lines" it is commonly believed that these veins of energy intersect at 23 degree angles. This can be seen in the alignments of the old churches of Dorset.

*Bengali Tantrists believe that men experience a 23 day sexual cycle as opposed to the 28 day cycle of women.

I hope there are at least a couple here that are of interest.

There used to be a railroad over here by the name of Consolidated Rail(Conrail for short) that last exactly 23 years and 2 months. Conrail was made up of lines consisting of the there used to be a railroad over here by the name of the Central of New Jersey, the Reading, Lehigh Valley, Erie Lackawanna, the Penn Central and the Lehigh & Hudson. Conrail operations ceased on June 1, 1999 when the road was split up between CSX and Norfolk Southern Railways.

I kid you not when I state this!!! I just entered my birthdate on the caulator on here and you won't believe what came up. My birthdate is 7+4+8+4, so I added it up and it came out as 23!!!

My encounter was with the number 7 including 17, 27 etc.. I think Apophenia is probably the correct answer in my case.
