Just think about that for a second.....

What would the world be like if Lieing were to be made impossible?

Not just improbable, but Impossible, in face to face situations.

How would our culture change? How will we start to look at the Voting process then?

It may be impossible to have completely foolproof Lie Detectors, yet I've seen demonstrations recently of a facial reckognition system that read emotions simply with a video camera. It was meant to help autistic people interpret facial expression.

If such a system could be improved to the extent that it could even see and intrepret even the most subtle sub-conscious facial cues, I can definately see how it is applicable to the realm of Lie Detection. Just imagine if every reporter in the world had access to this technology. Could turn out to be quite a few number of Dead Reporters if it's successful enough.

news.bbc.co.uk...

I have a problem with Aspergers Syndrom myself so I'll be watching this research...

theres a word for a world without lies....its part of utopia...lol..

also on a more serious note.. good find about the new technology. It would be a great accomplishment if we had the capability to tell 100% if someone was lying. And then insitute a weekly lie detector test for all our politicians!

Weekly? How about whenever they are sworn under oath and press conferances and such. If the technology gets better, then News Stations can just run the algorithim to detect wether someone is being truthful or not. Though I doubt it will ever be 100 percent effective as there are some people out there that either A. Don't show any emotion on their face whatsoever and B. A Sociopath.

Maybe a requirement of Politicians being sworn into office is to be asked a series of Character, Professional, and Philisophical questions, under the oath and watchful gaze of a bazillion Lie Detectors(owned by the many News Corps and Citizen Activists, Journos.

Maybe we can also catch hidden sociopaths but that devles into the more Orweillian depths with which this technology can be used. Imagine having weekly "Loyalty Tests." One failure and you disappear...permenantly...

lol I was looking for something to quote you on but I liked everything you said.
I was only saying once a week as an example of a kind of permanent testing schedule. But I think that in one form or another they should be tested as much as possible. Personally IMO They should be hooked up on the damned things from the minute they walk into office until the minute they walk out. But im sure thats alittle extreme.
Also your right, there are people that have no facial expression when they speak so they could evade the camera method.. but you combine other known lie detectors to this new perspective and you have an even more comprehensive lie detector. After all the the govt belongs to the people and if someone is working for the govt they work for the people. And IMHO during their time in service they sacrifice their private mind while on the "peoples". Private mind being all matters related to their work.. not their private lives.

You know Ive been saying something like this about the appointments of the Supreme Court Justices.. Ive often wondered, why are congeressmen and senators interviewing these guys? Why are the other S.C. Justices not interviewing them? the other Justices would know exactly what questions that are appropriate to be asked.. and maybe we can end this rubber stamping of public officials. Just look at the Hayden Confirmation which completed today.

Yes and this part is the part where our beloved govt would abuse the crap out of this technology....We are already treading dangerously close to 1984 as it is.

If this method gets up to the 90% range of people it works on 100% of the time, it could potentially be mounted on some sort of head mounted computer eventually, with a display in the lenses(we're very close to that now). Imagine being able to tell if anyone is lying to you. Shady Business' would quickly disappear, con-men will become simple clerks or start begging on the streets.

What other societal effects would it have... will men cease getting lucky? What about the cultural ramifications of such a widespread use of the populace of such a technology?

ok in this NON Orwellian scenario you posed some good questions

firstly, Society would change in a great many ways. Even with your observation of the death of the conman there would be huge changes in advertising and production of goods.. Just imagine going to buy a used car and the dealer can't hornswaggle you because he sees the little lens over your eye.

On a religious level it would stop all the BS religious rogues and maybe help to clean up the major religions of the world.
Best of all it would change politics which needs help more then anything.

Your next question; will men cease getting lucky; has me with two answers based on your meaning of lucky. If you mean lucky as in getting some sex..lol, then it will definately put a damper on a mans plans. If you meant lucky as in a good day at the track.. well thats not lying so I dont think that would be a factor. You probably meant the first, but I figured id just go with both to be sure.

As far as any major ramifications..hmmmm.. for those who embraced this technology it would be an invaluable tool in daily life. For those who reject it; well, they will probably try to find a way around it. Build a better mouse trap and you just get smarter mice. How many wars would start or be avoided with this kind of technology?

This is the True Face of PIG known as Jesus Christ!

JESUS CHRIST IS, IN TRUTH, THE REAL
GREAT WHORE, THE PROSTITUTE AND KING OF BABYLON=THE 666.

www.gaiaguys.net...

CULT RELIGION:

JESUS CHRIST IS AN EVIL INVENTION CREATED TO ENSLAVE THE WHOLE HUMANKIND

"The most sordid pretext of maximum power in the name of false and mendacious love that literally walks over dead bodies without hesitation or scruple.

Backed by the false doctrine of the New Testament, the Christian cult religion meddles in the politics of all countries. Moreover, it is not embarrassed to interfere in the most intimate family life of human beings --even in the bed of marriage partners--in order even there to attack and destroy the last and most private secrets of human beings.

Now finally has come the time when a stop can be put to all these unscrupulous activities, if man becomes sensible enough, revises his thinking and devotes himself to the real teachings of Jmmanuel. In all likelihood, all those who have bashed their heads against the brick wall of the cult religions deceitful madness and are therefore no longer capable of normal and sensible thinking, will fight and oppose it with all means; and yet, their desperate fight will be in vain because truth will be stronger than any cult-religious mania or dirty lie, even though the lie has been in existence for thousands of years. The scandalous falsehoods of cult religions will now be shattered and destroyed for good, no matter how much the cult religions and all their followers and advocates rebel against it. Finally truth will be victorious, even though it must be secured through great struggles, as it has been written in the Scriptures, which say that the truth will provoke a worldwide catastrophe. However, truth is required and must no longer be silenced. A catastrophe will be understandable if one considers that the cult religions have attained immense power, which so far has enabled them to suppress, with murderous and sordid means, all truths directed against them. They will again attempt to do this, even if it means indulging in murder as has often been the case in the past." - Billy Meier, Talmud Jmmanuel, Introduction

Please Ignore the post above this one, I was responding to a poster who is now on Global Ignore or has been deleted.

I have a question, how would scent play into such a man portable mood and lie detector system? Does anyone know wether we secrete certain chemicals from our pores when in certain moods? Links would be appreciated.

As far as scent goes...hmmm. thats a good question. If I have some time this week ill try to dig something up one way or another about it.

Also I hope my hypothetical answers were not too juvinile.

tell you what the biggest impact would be.

no one would hardly talk to each other, as around 95% of what everyone says to each other are lies.

Or, worse still:

Q: Darling, does my bum look big in this?
A: Yes it does. But then, it looks big in anything.

She: Ludwig! Goodness, it's been years since I saw you!
He: And you know what, Gertrude, you're looking every day of them.

Just imagine how it would be if everybody said what they really thought about their parents, spouses, children, friends, colleagues, bosses and subordinates.

'Dad, your trophy wife looks really hot for a gold-digging slut.'

'You can forget about promotion, Wycherly, nobody with an overbite like yours is ever getting a corner office in my agency.'

'You know, I've never slept with anybody whose morning breath reeks as offensively as yours.'

Just imagine how it would be if everybody said what they really thought about blacks, whites, reds, yellows, browns, gays, straights, liberals, capitalists, communists, socialists, christians, jews, muslims, buddhists, hindus, taoists, ancestor worshippers and followers of religions founded by bad science fiction writers.

Imagine if real life were like ATS.

The horror, the horror.

Utopian visions aside, do you think that something as golden as a really accurate lie detector would immediately be confiscated for government use only? I mean if it were in the hands of the people, it would knock down many institutions which makes the world work as we know it (good and bad). I think the government would immediately consider it a security risk and make it their own device and system for their exclusive use to remain powerful. As you know the governments goal is to perpetuate itself indefinitely.

i remember seeing a program where it showed insurance companies, using some computer software to monitor peoples voices on the phone while they were making a cliam. they reckoned it was quite accurate in telling if people were not exactly being truthly, whether they were lying they did not know.
