During his lifetime, President Ronald Reagan was known to have a fascination for, among other things; i.e. astrology and religious prophecy. For the most part, these interests were the topic of supermarket tabloids and the "ammo" of his political pundits. UFO's and, in particular, an "alien invasion of Earth", however, was a interest of President Reagans' that actually became globally known through his speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations;

"In our obsession with antagonisms of the moment, we often forget how much unites all the members of humanity. Perhaps we need some outside, universal threat to make us recognize this common bond. I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world."
Speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Forty-second session, "Provisional Verbatim Record of the Fourth Meeting", September 21, 1987.)

President Reagan made many similar comments to various people from high school groups to Premier Gorbachev. It seems that he talked about UFO's to anyone who'd listen. But when he spoke in front of the United Nations, he did raise an interesting issue. It was Reagan's contention that the world, if invaded by aliens, would unite.

Ronald Reagan believed that if a threat from another world attacked Earth, the nations of the world would drop their national quarrels and differences and band together, perhaps as a "United Earth"(?) to fight against the alien invaders. Do you think that this would be the case?

No. We'd have one group demanding that we blow the aliens out of existence. Another group would demand that we apologize to the aliens for whatever it was that MADE them HAVE to invade and kill us all; perhaps demanding also that we help the aliens by committing mass suicide. Then we'd have the groups each trying to talk the aliens out of destroying just them ("We'll help you kill THEM if you leave US alone"), for whatever reasons (political, religous, economic). All this would probably start a global war, we'd kill most of the human population on earth ourselves, and then discover that the "invasion" was all created by the alien equivalent of two teenagers with a super-holographic x-box (Hey Beav, what are we gonna tell Dad?).

Told in a joking manner, but this is what I see...

If aliens invaded we would probably be dead before we even knew it. I mean we can kill people and they have no idea it's coming. Imagine what technology hundreds if not thousands of years ahead of us could do.

Damn, if that doesn't sound like a PNAC quote!

The science fiction books and movies, especially those from the fifties and early sixties, certainly covered the concept of waging a war with an invasion from outer space. But the writers at that time avoided the concept that any alien civilization would be overwhelmingly powerful. The concept that "resistance is futile" seemed to develop in the nineties with Star Trek; the next generation.

Just because an alien race can cross the great voids of space, and just because they might be advanced in many other areas as well does not preclude a victory over the earth. Technology, that is advanced technology, in one field does not necessarily mean that technologies in other fields would be equally advanced. The Aztecs, for example, could calculate the movement of the planets with great precision. Furthermore, they also performed crude but, nevertheless effective brain surgery (trepanning) and they built an advanced and complicated society and trade system. Even though the Aztecs had built an excellent system of paved roads, they did NOT HAVE THE WHEEL.

Keeping this in mind, it would be possible that an alien invasion could be one that, although devastating in some aspects, the Human Race might put up a strong resistence if they fought united as one planet. Do you think that the planet would, could unite?

NWO, that's been the plan to unite the planet. Absorbing rogue nations that for now put forth a threat of Nuclear detonation withing democratic countries, and to align all underling nations against any threat from EBEs (the given few -- not all).

If they were to invade. It would depend on what tatics they used. If they really wanted the planet (without us nuking the crap out of everything) they would have to someway of taking out all of the Earth's nuclear weapons (God knows how many of them).

Are we talking about a hostile invasion?

As I see it - the "invasion" has already happened. They're making huge amounts of money off catering to our basic desires and offering up new technology by the handful everytime we turn around. Not to mention pacifing the hell out of us through inspid televsion broadcasts and sub-standard movie plots.

The best way to dominate a populace is not by violent means, which would invariably lead to an uprising...it's by slowly (over the course of time) breeding out the fighting spirit and ability to problem solve with ingenious and creative imaginations.

Not to mention keep them fighting amounst themselves over semantics and religious debates, political viewpoints and other non-constructive pursuits.

What good is a population so dependant on the system that they couldn't grow a garden if their lives depended on it?

An 'alien' infiltration of the planet by stealth over a period of time would negate any effective united global resistance from eventuating.
In that time 'aliens' could learn about our strengths, weaknesses, societies,
institutions, belief systems, governments, etc.
Once enough information had been learned, they may even start to influence human societies and eventually even control many aspects of human societies from behind the scenes. Possibly encouraging/instigating warfare, religious strife, political upheaval, etc. Keeping people divided by various means.

All the while safe in the knowledge that most humans don't even believe aliens exist. Many of those that do believe are awaiting science and astronomers to discover 'life' on other planets, or somewhere out there in space.

One day after the planet has finnished undergoing its Orwellian transformation due to freedom depriving laws being passed by governments using the excuse of "global terrorism", the 'aliens' decide they have enough control over the population and are confident that they are more than capable of thwarting any pockets of resistence that may arise, they reveal themselves to a helpless, unprepared planet.

I think we would unite, if not for the cause of becoming a peaceful good species, but simply the basic need for survival. If anything, we would all simply fight 'till the death, and for one small amount of time, we would forget our differences, and prejudices and simply try, for once, to WORK TOGETHER.

You could not take more then 3 steps and a UFO could suck you up like a vacuum cleaner from 80,0000ft in under 2 seconds.

That is the TRUTH.

Our Governments could do nothing but that is what the Day of Judgement or Great Purification is about, we as humans failed overall as the next specie in line and did not understand history or realize where we originated.

We are under no threat, forgot to mention that, unless you have done something bad toward nature and life.

THEN COMMENCE THE PARANOIA.
