A seven-year-old boy has become the youngest person ever to swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco.

Braxton Bilbrey, joined by his coach and two other adults, completed the chilly 2.25-kilometre swim in 47 minutes on Monday.

Greeted by reporters and his father, the second-grader summed up his adventure as "pretty cool."

"He did great," Bilbrey's father, Steve, told reporters. "He looked so strong. He did so awesome. I'm so proud of him."

Man I can't even swim across the pool at the park with my grandkids. I wonder how this kid managed to do it. Seems pretty lucky to me or just good currents.
Either way it's a heck of an accomplishment.

He probably started swimming as soon as they would let him in the pool!
