Not Your Soldier Animation & Web Site

Topic started on 15-5-2006 @ 04:11 PM by Dave Rabbit

I received this in an e-mail recently and went and watched it. It is an amazing piece of work. I am constantly blown away at the technology that is available to each of us at a touch of a key. It is here for your thoughts, discussion and opinions about it. It is not endorsed or sanctioned by myself or ATS.

Dave

Inspired by Sir! No Sir! the folks from the 'Not Your Soldier' coalition (focused on counter recruitment and challenging militarism in schools) have put together an amazing flash animation.

It was done by Town and Planet Animation's Andy Menconi, who won the moveon.org's Bush in 30 Seconds award and it ROCKS!

Please check it out and forward it far and wide! You can get to it by clicking this link:

punkasscrusade.cf.huffingtonpost.com...

FYI I have also included the original note from 'Not Your Soldier' about it as well below.

Hey y'all,

The hardworking hellraisers at the Ruckus Society are proud to unveil for you the world premier of a bombastic new Flash animation called "Punk Ass Crusade". It's packed with mind-bending images and an hot new song from The Coup.

It draws powerful connections between the Vietnam War and what's going on in Iraq NOW. An amazing new documentary called "Sir! No Sir!" has finally unearthed the true story of the full scale GI mutiny against Uncle Sam's racist war in Vietnam. We made this flash to connect their struggle to the young people of today who are exposing the lies of military recruiters and refusing to kill or die for Bush's punk ass crusade.

This video is a cutting edge organizing tool for our Not Your Soldier program and is designed for the Text Message Generation so don't beat yourself up if it moves a little quicker than you do. But do us a favor and pass this message along to the young people in your life. It'll give you some street cred to trade on later, and they'll thank you for it!!

To ensure maximum online saturation please link to our MySpace page and vote for us on Huffington Post's Contagious Festival.

Crank up your speakers! notyoursoldier.org...

Big BIG ups to all of our co-conspirators on this one: Town & Planet, Radical Designs, Openomic, Goodstorm, The Coup, and Sir! No Sir!

That's bloody awesome. I can see the amount of work that's been put into it, and it turned out great! Also, I didn't know the Pentagon has names and address of everyone in school. Thats a bit scary. Watch it!
Is there any thing else out there by this guy>?

Very cool. It's a shame so many people get brainwashed into throwing their lives away for something that doesn't give two s**** about them. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't think twice about fighting for those I love, but there was no threat, and there is no reason for war. This is just the culmination of dacades of brainwashing.

If you play it back wards it has a subliminal message! Kinda like "The Exorcist".

Just kidding!

To be completely fair, their numbers (even from a very liberal point of view) for American war dead during the Vietnam era were greatly over-exaggerated, the so-called "poverty draft" is nothing more than a term coined in inner-city neighborhoods, and should not be taken as a serious phrase, and the information given about he G.I. Bill was totally innacurate.

The No Child Left Behind Act does not, in any way, require schools to give information on students eligible for military service. The government has that information. It's funny how that flash film did nothing but contradict itself on that point, but sad that because of the "hip" look of the video and the "modern" music used (it was a very well-done piece), that the very audience that they are speaking to with their propaganda is the one that is being told to "ignore the propaganda".

Encouraging - even by implying - inner-city kids to desert their military posts (and thereafter be imprisoned for a federal crime) isn't really going to give them a future, is it?

I'm against the war, yes. But I am also against baseless arguments and ignorance - and by using "Leetspeak" and the lowest common language denominator to reach kids is atrocious. Kids are smart. Showing them the truth and allowing them to think for themselves is a far better route.

It could have been so much more.

As I said in an earlier excerpt..... neither I or ATS necessarily endorses this site, but we ALL have to admit... a lot of time and effort and creativity has gone into this and whomever created the graphics and direction of it, has done a masterful job. It is presented for its creativity...... not necessarily for its message.

Well Dave, I am certainly glad you nor ATS is endorsing this...

I guess it is a perfect example of a well developed, well thought out piece of...... Garbage Propaganda....

You know I think what is most insulting is the idea that if you are committed personally to following orders, that you are somehow "less" then those that question such orders...

The unspoken assumption of superiority... SHEESH

The idea that if you are against the government, you must be correct by default and all of us that support the war and the government are somehow less....

The accepted idea that I may be not quite as intelligent as those that are against the war and hate the government...

Just plain insulting....

Yet, what I have fought for, in the Marines and now on the streets, is to protect everyones right to say whatever they want. No matter how foolish it is or that it is insulting...

So,

Thanks for posting this...

Semper
