Hi,

As most of you know, the British Ministry of Defence will be making a full copy of the Condign Report on UFOs ("UAPs") available on its website tomorrow (Monday 15 May 2006). I'm sure the relevant link will be posted here soon afterwards.

I posted initial comments on the contents of the Condign Report to UpDates yesterday, which are now on that List at:

My initial comments are a bit long, so I won't duplicate them here (simply in the interests of saving bandwidth). However, as usual, I don't have a problem with anyone using what they want and where they want (including posting bits here to comment on them).

I think the key paragraph in my initial comments is the following:

"As detailed below, I consider the Condign Report to be a very
useful and valuable document. The report is valuable as a case
study of the risks inherent in scientific research being
conducted in secrecy, including the risks of inefficiency and
ineffectiveness."

I know there is already a thread relating to the media coverage about the fact that the Report is being released, but that coverage was based merely on a summary of the report and I think it is worth starting a new thread to discuss the actual _content_ of the Condign Report.

All the best,

Isaac Koi

Hey Issac,

Thanks for previewing this report!

I find the Phonic play upon and reference to the Condon Committee/Report amusingly interesting.

Especially when you said in your review ....

www.virtuallystrange.net...

It is fairly clear from the content of his report that the
author of the Condign Report did not bother to obtain a copy of
the Condon Report. This is particularly significant given that
the Condon study actually considered the plasma-UFO theory and,
as discussed below, organized a conference of scientists to
discuss the merits of that theory.

And also considering the end result of the report.

I would also agree with you , based only on my limited knowledge of the Condign Report report, that it seems to make a few positive points.

I mainly find the point that the report appears to acknowledge a UAP/UFO Reality. Here is an example in this paragraph.

Executive Summary of the Condign Report

Para 13: "The close proximity of plasma related fields can
adversely affect a vehicle or person. For this to occur the UAP
must be encountered at very close ranges. A probable modulated
magnetic, electric or electromagnetic (or even unknown field)
appears to emanate from some of the buoyant charged masses.
Local fields of this type . have been medically proven to cause
responses in the temporal lobes of the human brain. These result
in the observer sustaining (and later describing and retaining)
his or her own vivid, but mainly incorrect, description of what
is experienced. . This is suggested to be a key factor in
influencing the more extreme reports found in the media and are
clearly believed by the 'victims'".

While I find the insinuation that people are mentally affected into believing and reporting the "more extreme reports found in the media " to be a silly conclusion, I think its relevant that the author is attempting to explain these as real and "believed by the 'victims".

Its almost like the Condign Report is trying to say to people , its o.k. you or the guy next to you could have a close encounter with a UFO at anytime , but its just an effect from plasma fields that caused you to remember a structured craft.

Or saying to people that its possible that you could see a UFO and be so impressed by its strangeness and rarity to walk away convinced you witnessed something otherworldly , and yet its just unexplained atmospheric conditions and the MOD is absolved from further investigation on the grounds of National Security risks.

And here is the Condign Report itself. Enjoy.
