I believe that the chatroom system at ATS is unfair. 200 posts to chat is simply outrageous. I have just joined and it could take me months to gain that many posts. Even at 2 or 3 posts a day it might not be possible in 2 months. All new members, and people who simply care sign this petition and perhaps ATS might change its policy. Probably not, but there is a miniscule chance.

I think 200 posts is reasonable. According to another thread here there have been abuse issues in the Chat area. I am with the administrators and moderators on this one and I am not even eligible to chat yet.

It is a good rule.

200 posts no big deal. i havent been here that long, not an excessive poster ( i think ) and im up to 260. The joy isnt the destination but the journey. Enjoy.

With only three posts in the few weeks you have registered, I hardly see how your in a position to question how the administration has organized the board.

A member who registers today should not have the same ability as an avid poster for the last few years. 200 posts are not hard to come by whatsoever, you can easily attain it in a few days if you make an effort.

Alot of members register for ATS with no intention of posting on ATS, it makes browsing a much more pleasurable experience. These members should not be permitted in the chat. Its kind of like an obligation to the board, ATS provides this great environment where you can spend countless hours. Alls they ask is 200 posts of your time in return. Its a fair trade.

Prove to the board a small commitment, and the awards you recieve in return are endless.

By simply responding to this, you are another step closer.

I am all for equal rights between members, however new members should have something to stride towards.

After 20 Posts you have the right to u2u non-staff members.

After 200 posts you can enter the chat.

This may seem like alot initially, but you will be suprised to see how fast you will go through them.

Good luck and happy hunting.

I'll share a secret with you, Visit BTS.

There are plenty of games on the board where posts are racking up left and right. Alot of members visit there when they first join the board, you can get some posts in and become familiar with how the site runs.

I learned alot of coding on those games, along with etiquette.

Through these more relaxed chats, you become comfortable and more prepared to jump into a heated discussion on ATS.

Lashing out with [quote]'s and Bolding your Text

Some of our senior members can be very intimidating, some members see it fit to begin with BTS. It is the area to Deny Boredom

I would check it out, before you know it you'll be telling the next newest member how easy it is to come by 200 posts.

The cycle continues...

Chat is fun for many members for sure. It really is a reward for those that are contributing members to the board.

I’m sure you have a lot to share with the ATS members and hope that you get into some interesting conversations here. If you dive in you will soon be rewarded with access to the chat rooms.

Just have fun and enjoy the members here, there is a lot to talk about friend.

No I was just making a reference to the more laid back section of ATS where you can learn the ropes.

All of your posts on Below Top Secret count towards your 200 goal in order to join chat.

The boards are easier to moderate than the chat room. In the past year that I have been a Moderator there have been at least a dozen incidents where the chat room was almost removed from the site all together. Why? Because when we had a lower post count to get in (20), it was abused like crazy.

Also, most people who want to abuse ATS give up or are banned before reaching the 200 post count entry fee.

My advice? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride to chat, no matter how long it takes. After all, it's a priveledge, not aright.

The staff of ATS have set the rules and to me they have always seemed fair, so if entering chat is that important to you then you need to go on and get your quota of posts needed to enter chat, and for sure a new member starting a petition is not the way to go,just my opinion.

Seems you have not visited the boards, afterhours. It becomes evident a few of our staff members have abit of an alcohol problem, I mean power to them nobody likes a quitter but that power has to be limited.

Don't ever cross paths with that 12m8keal2c after 11:00PM on the east coast. He gets nasty.

I've been around for a long time and seen a lot of stuff here.
I think that 200 posts is very reasonable.

I'll have to keep that in mind chissler, been around for a bit and never really noticed what you are speaking of, however, I only hope they share, a like a cold one myself when I'm roaming the boards late night. These are good things to know when searching for a cold one late at night

No, it is not outrageous. For lack of a better word at the moment, call it a PERK. By being an active member here, you get a gift. That gift is the ability to enter the Chatroom. At least, that's the way I see it.
There ought to be plenty of room, because some of us with enough posts have never chatted. At least, I haven't.

i was in chat at one point...they upped the ante to 200, then it took me a yr to get back in it, no big whoop. If you are planning on being a contributing member of ATS, it should be no biggie how long it takes you to get into chat. Its just another great extension of the site. Stay, post, learn and enjoy. The entire site is free so to complain about the way something is run that doesnt cost you a dime is kinda frivelous(sp), dont ya think? I say nertz to ur petition.

The rules are there for a reason.

200 posts does not take all that long. And it is imo very fair. As for myself, I have never had the inclination to use chat at all since I became a member.
