I can't find a link yet as this is breaking news.
But the Metropolitan police in London have just arrested two people who they are describing as "renegade Russian intelligence officers" over a plan to assassinate Putin on a foreign visit.

Details are sketchy at the moment and I will post a link when one comes up.

The question is: if Putin's own people are trying to assassinate him, how deep does the problem go? And who else could have known about this plot?

ITV teletext.
Scotland Yard has confirmed that they are holding and have questioned two Russian men over the last 5 days.
They are being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Thanks for the links Banshee.

I have not been able to find anything 'breaking' on this Leveller, but will keep looking.
I wonder, also, if this is not a move by the military to regain control.....dunno....just thinking outloud....

I have found that assassination attempts have been made on Putin, and as far back as Sept. 12, 2000, at the Yalta conference.....

Three words for y'all.

news (dot) google (dot) com.

This is pretty breaking...it only hit the newswires an hour ago.
But they let 'em go.

www.sky.com...

...the men were released on Friday without further action.

But she refused to confirm reports that this was on condition they returned to Russia.

I have to admit to being suprised that this isn't bigger news.

It's hidden away on the news site web pages and hasn't made the TV at all.
Of course there is the fact that the plot could have been merely speculation but a 5 day interrogation of foreign nationals in the UK is rather unusual under circumstances of innocence.

What intrigues me is that Scotland Yard are refusing to say wether the men were released under condition that they are returned to Russia. If there is something to this story, what fate will befall them when they return home?

And if they are innocent, why would Scotland Yard refuse to comment on this?
