BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) - A British military helicopter crashed and caught fire in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Saturday, police said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but one policeman at the scene in central Basra told Reuters the aircraft had been fired on.

The south is relatively quiet of activity - maybe the way the british deal with the whole situation? So incidents like this are unusual.

More breaking info here

Its still unclear as to how and why this happened. Speculation is that the helicopter was shot at. No news of what unit the soldiers were from.

The troops on the ground are having a hard time of things too. They have had to endure petrol bomb attacks etc from the gathering crowds.
